Higher Ed Administrative Careers - Institutional Research
The Director of Church Engagement will serve a vital public-facing role on the Fuller Youth Institute (FYI) team, ensuring the Institute fulfills its mission of equipping diverse leaders and parents by turning academic research into practical resources so faithful young people can change our world. This person will oversee church engagement strategy, lead cohorts and other training initiatives, develop relationships and networks, and ensure effective systems and processes to execute all of these efforts. The Director of Church Engagement will be a seasoned church leader with experience in youth ministry and senior leadership roles who can help FYI scale our research and resources through collaborative relationships that will ultimately lead to 100,000 US churches and ministries being better equipped to disciple young people by 2025.
Church engagement strategy
Collaborate with FYI’s Senior Directors to develop and implement strategies for FYI’s resources, partnerships, and training. Ensure that FYI’s values for diversity, equity, inclusion and justice are integrated in FYI’s related procedures and processes.
Maximize and expand current training efforts, as well as develop new revenue-generating initiatives for FYI that are consistent and well-coordinated with our past and future research activities, as well as the needs of the field.
Work closely with FYI’s Creative Team on the development of constituent engagement and marketing strategies, sales strategies, and dissemination mechanisms for research and resources, including website, social media, print articles and books, training workshops, and public relations venues as appropriate. This includes collaboration on FYI’s online store systems and fulfillment center, as well managing relationships with other relevant outside vendors.
Work closely with FYI staff, Division and seminary peers and leadership to develop clear pathways that seamlessly connect engaged learners to and from other Centers in the Division and on the Platform, as well as guides engaged learners on a path to become Fuller Seminary students, as appropriate.
Integrate FYI’s church engagement strategy with the Discipleship Movement, a collaborative effort with dozens of denominations and training organizations that aims to more effectively develop young people nationally.
Lead cohorts and training initiatives
Oversee recruiting efforts for FYI’s various Live Training initiatives, including but not limited to leader coaching, church consulting, church cohorts, certified speaker process, conferences, online training and other events.
Manage processes and staff involved in various training efforts, including responsibility for tracking of payments, deposits, coordinating logistical details (lodging, catering, volunteers) with key FYI staff for on-campus summits, hosting virtual training webinars, providing coaching and oversight of coaches, and other communication as necessary.
Partner with FYI Directors and other key staff to pioneer and execute other strategic training initiatives.
Participate in the strategy and execution of FYI’s various grant-funded training initiatives as needed, including the grant-funded Living a Better Story (LABS) training cohort.
Speak, write, and train on behalf of FYI at various regional, national, and virtual training events.
Relationship Development and Networking
Lead a team that serves as the main point of contact for all church leaders interested in training or other support from FYI, as well as serve as a point of contact.
Develop relationships with church leaders inside and outside FYI’s current network nationwide, including denominational and ministry leaders, introducing them to FYI and involving them in training opportunities. Methods may involve but are not limited to participation in conferences, phone calls, emails, meals, and other ideas suggested by the Director of Church Engagement.
Brainstorm and host events for ministry leaders to learn about FYI initiatives, including occasional collaboration with other departments at Fuller Theological Seminary.
Represent FYI and Fuller more broadly at relevant ministry conferences by hosting exhibit booths and other in-person gatherings (approximately 3-5 times per year).
General administration and participation in FYI team meetings, events, and strategic planning
Collaborate with other FYI team members to develop effective and efficient office systems that support church engagement. This includes fiscal oversight of relevant projects and initiatives of FYI, including some oversight of operating budgets, writing grant reports, and wise stewardship of FYI’s financial resources.
Assist with the implementation and development of customer relationship management software (Salesforce) for the FYI team to ensure accurate and strategic tracking of contacts and relationship development.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
Master’s degree in theology or a related field required, DMin or equivalent preferred.
5-10+ years of staff experience at a church required. Experience in a senior leadership role in a church, denomination, or training organization (including oversight of training events) preferred.
Strong youth ministry knowledge and experience required.
3+ years of experience in African American, Asian/Asian American, Pacific Islander, Latino/a, or ethnically and racially diverse ministry to youth, young adults, and/or families preferred, including demonstrated excellence in leading efforts of inclusion and equity
Strong relational skills and ability to build relationships, manage teams, and work effectively with diverse staff.
Excellent communication skills required, by phone, email, social media, and in person. Ability to write clearly and effectively an absolute must.
Experience in customer relationship management. Broad computer and Internet knowledge and skills required; experience with Salesforce CRM software preferred.
Ability to work effectively in a multi-task environment—the ability to initiate, prioritize, maintain, and complete both short-term and long-term projects simultaneously.
Must be highly detail-oriented, organized, and show a strong level of strategic thinking.
