The Coordinator supports all aspects of research review, monitoring, training and advocacy for Southern Wesleyan University. The position requires strong expertise in research and research compliance including all aspects of institutional review and monitoring of research proposals submitted to the University’s research compliance committees (i.e., Institutional Review Board (IRB), Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC), and Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC)). Reporting to the Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs, this position is classified as full-time, salaried, exempt, and is a 12-month position. The projected hire date is August 1, 2020.
Coordinate all aspects of the regulatory activities of federally mandated research compliance committees and ensure the maintenance of detailed and complete record keeping for research-related training and committee work.
Communicate with and inform University administrators and faculty of current and impending federal regulations and policies affecting research activities involving human subjects, vertebrate animals, recombinant DNA, and hazardous agents.
Serve as an ex-officio, non-voting, member of IRB, IACUC, and IBC committees, consulting with the committee chair(s) and work collaboratively with committee members to ensure a timely turnaround from the receipt of a viable proposal to notification of a final decision.
Plan, implement, and coordinate training programs (federally mandated and institutionally required) for all university faculty, staff and students involved in research activities related to responsible conduct of research, human subject research protection, and animal welfare and biosafety; plan and conduct new faculty and student orientation programs relative to all scientific integrity and compliance requirements; coordinate training programs for all members of research compliance committees.
Coordinate inquires and investigations resulting from allegations of research misconduct.
Work with the institution’s grant writer to monitor and publicize grant opportunities to appropriate schools and divisions of the University and work collaboratively to advise grant writing efforts of the University’s faculty and students.
Master’s degree and 3-5 years of related experience in research, compliance processes, project management, or a closely related field.
Grant writing and coordination experience preferred.
Demonstrated ability in clear, effective communication with diverse constituencies.
SWU is committed to maximizing the use of technology in its daily operations and in achieving its strategic goals; the ideal candidate will be familiar with integrated database management systems, including reporting, and have a high comfort level with web-based, mobile and PC applications including but not limited to the use of Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Visual acuity necessary to do editorial work, proof documents, and manage files.
Requires ability to sit for periods of time in an interior office environment. May require infrequent lifting of objects up to 10 pounds, and occasionally items up to 20 pounds.
Travel may be required as a part of this position.
