Belhaven University, a Christian university committed to the ministry of integrating biblical truth and learning, is searching for the ideal candidate for a Specialty Instructor in Costume Design and Construction at the traditional undergraduate campus in Jackson, Mississippi. This is a 3/4 time faculty position.
The Department of Theatre at Belhaven University is committed to training servant artists in the use of the art of theatre to serve their community, their collaborators, and their Creator. The department offers majors in theatre, theatre performance and theatre production, producing a season of 4-5 shows (including one musical) to provide hands on training for student artists. The department values collaboration, diversity, community and service. Belhaven University is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST). The department's students and faculty actively participate in Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC).
The specialty instructor will teach one class per semester, design one show per semester, supervise student designers, and manage a well-equipped costume shop staffed by work-study students and theatre practicum students. The candidate will also provide valuable support in the department's new production major.
MFA in Costume Design or related field is preferred. MA with costume focus will be considered. Candidate must have a record of costume design and experience in costume construction and technology. Must have the ability to teach and mentor undergraduate students. Candidate must be a collaborator who supports and celebrates the breadth of theatre training offered at the University.
Applicants must be able to fully support the University vision, mission and statement of faith, and contribute to the spiritual and academic fellowship of the university. Compensation and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University supplements major medical insurance. A confidential review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.
