The Malone University Office of Advancement is seeking a full-time, Director of Major Gifts. The primary responsibility of the Director of Major Gifts is to develop and implement a strategy for individual major gift donor relationship management (manage, nurture, upgrade) to meet short and long-term philanthropic goals that advance the mission of Malone University. Particular emphasis will be on identifying, cultivating and successfully soliciting new prospects. This position will focus on fundraising for all aspects of our Bolder Vision campaign. The primary objective of the Director of Major Gifts is to develop long-term relationships built on a firm understanding of donor interests, passions and values and alignment with University objectives and strategic priorities.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Must exhibit a personal understanding of, and operate in concert with the Foundational Principles, Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan of the University. A bachelor’s degree is required, master’s degree preferred. Five years of fundraising or sales/management experience, a record of successful outcomes and a working knowledge of fundraising/sales principles (i.e. moves management) are essential; experience in fundraising in higher education is preferred. Substantial weight will be given to candidates with experience in higher education and/or a proven track record of having successfully solicited and closed multiple substantial outright and estate gifts.
A proven ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing is essential. Proven effective relational skills are also required. A demonstrated ability to collaborate with a wide range of people and a demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively solve problems and complete projects independently is essential. Computer literacy (Microsoft Office) is required, a readiness to navigate the Development database (RaisersEdge) is essential.
Proven time management skills, the ability to prioritize, and record-keeping abilities are essential. The ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality of sensitive materials is essential. Current valid driver’s license and availability for frequent regional travel is required. Hours per week are anticipated to vary based on the needs and fluctuations of the fundraising and events cycle. Evening, weekend, and overnight commitments will be necessary at times.
