The Academic Division at SDCC provides a quality educational experience in an environment of faith and learning, supported by effective teaching and scholarship. This enables students to learn and become equipped with the fundamentals necessary to succeed in their field of study. The Academic Division works collaboratively with the Executive Office, Board of Trustees, and departments across the institution to develop, implement, and monitor innovative approaches to academic excellence and quality student experiences.
The Vice President of Academic Affairs provides leadership and vision for all academic programs that reflect the mission and vision at San Diego Christian College. The VP of Academic Affairs is an advocate for both undergraduate and graduate academic programs in both residential and online formats and is responsible to lead the educational policy and academic programs that support the direction for all academic programs. The VP of Academic Affairs provides leadership in strategic planning, accreditation, budgeting, curriculum and program development. This includes program review and improvement, accreditation and self-evaluation, assessment of student learning and advancement of student success, academic personnel decisions, budget development and fiscal accountability, and the improvement of teaching and learning. The office works collaboratively with the Executive Office and Board of Trustees to develop, implement, and monitor innovative approaches to academic excellence and quality student experiences.
Leadership of Academic Programs (35%)
Provide oversight of all academic programs
Design and develop expansion proposals that promote the SDCC mission and extend the programmatic offerings
Coordinate the evaluation, selection, and ordering of textbooks
Support the coordination and development of the College Catalog and Faculty Manual
Lead responses regarding departmental questions, complaints, grievances, and suggestions from faculty and students
Monitor admissions standards and student enrollment patterns as they relate to the traditional undergraduate academic programs
Define and implement policies that promote the needs of all students
Leadership of Faculty and Academic Staff (30%)
Recruit, develop, supervise, and evaluate a distinguished faculty that are committed to the mission, vision, and values of SDCC
Develop an environment and attitude of collaboration between academics and all other departments at SDCC
Lead regular faculty meetings with Department Charis, Faculty and Academic Staff
Drive a culture of innovative learning
Oversee the processes associated with student advising, retention, and student success.
Seek and expand a Christ-follower culture through a positive servant-leader contribution in the workplace
Responsible for developing positive relationships that represent SDCC to the public and community
Leadership of Institutional Accreditation (15%)
Serve as Accreditation Liaison Officer for the institution
Drive and foster a culture of accreditation throughout SDCC
Lead the systematic review, assessment, and oversight of course curriculum that support academic programs and ensure curricular alignment with the mission and vision of SDCC
Remain current with regional accreditation requirements, educational trends, and relevant academic issues that may pertain to SDCC and its programmatic offerings
Leadership of Strategic Planning (15%)
Participate in institutional strategic planning and promote initiatives that will support SDCC's current strategic plan
Coordinate long-term planning of educational programs that further the strategic plan, the educational master plan, and the goals and objectives of SDCC
Accountable for the achievement of SDCC goals and objectives in the scope of the academic course of study offered through the academic programs.
Leadership of Financial and Administrative Oversight (5%)
Develop and monitor annual budget for academic programs within the approved scope of the overall college budget objectives
Monitor costs associated with the academic programs
Review and approve faculty load assignments in a fiscally responsible manner
Review program-related expenses on a quarterly and semester basis
Oversee necessary purchase orders and check requests

Terminal degree required in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience in higher education
Minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in leadership and administration within higher education
Advanced knowledge, understanding, and expertise regarding the regional accreditation expectations and requirements.
Understanding of how best to develop, implement and evaluate academic programs and services
Experience in the development of new academic programs and services
Provide verified references to document this experience
Highly effective interpersonal skills; skilled in tactful diplomacy and conflict resolution.

Ability to stand, walk, reach, see, key, hear, work independently, communicate effectively lift and carry up to 20 lbs (with or without assistance). This position requires long periods of sitting, standing, walking, keying and hand/eye coordination for keyboard data entry and viewing data on a computer monitor.
Must be available to work nights and weekends as needed
