Belhaven University, a Christian university committed to the ministry of integrating biblical truth and learning, is searching for the ideal candidate for an Assistant/Associate Professor in the Department of Theatre at the traditional undergraduate campus in Jackson, Mississippi. This is a full-time, exempt position. The ideal candidate will have training and experience in Theatre Design & Production.
The Department of Theatre at Belhaven University is committed to training servant artists in the use of the art of theatre to serve their community, their collaborators, and their Creator. The department offers a BA in Theatre with additional emphases in performance and in production. The department offers a season of 4 productions annually.
Responsibilities The Theatre Design & Production professor is responsible for all technical operations in both the Center for the Arts Black Box Theatre (mainstage) and Barber Theatre (studio). This individual is also responsible for designing the sets and lights for 2-3 productions annually. Working alongside a part-time staff shop foreman, the Theatre Design & Production professor will oversee the building and implementation of sets, lights, props, and sound for the department’s season of shows. As part of this process, the Theatre Design & Production professor will train and mentor student designers and technicians. The Theatre Design & Production professor teaches 2-3 courses per semester in areas such as stagecraft, theatre design, stage management, introduction to theatre, and other courses in the candidate’s areas of interest.
Qualifications M.F.A. required, in theatre design, technical direction, or related field. M.A. considered. The successful candidate must articulate a Christian worldview in one's teaching and academic discipline and fully support the University Vision, Mission, and Statement of Faith as set forth at: http://www.belhaven.edu/Belhaven/mission.htm.
