The School of Theology and Ministry is seeking applications from qualified individuals to apply for the position of Assistant Professor of Christian Worship. Successful candidates will show evidence of personal faith in Jesus Christ, comfort with the Wesleyan perspective, and a commitment to liberal learning as well as a fully integrated life of faith and work, embracing God’s purpose individually and collaboratively. Applicants who bring diverse ethnic, racial, and gender perspectives to their scholarship and teaching are especially encouraged to apply.
The School of Theology and Ministry candidates should show substantial experience in full-time worship ministry in the local church, demonstrated excellence in teaching at the collegiate level, be conversant in and have an appreciation for a wide variety of worship styles, committed philosophically to developing many types of worship leaders (i.e., musicians, other artists, pastors), and fully value women at all levels of leadership in the church. The preferred candidate should see their teaching as a service to the Church and should love the local church. They should be enthusiastic about the Wesleyan tradition of which the university is a part.
Start date will be fall 2020.
Reports to the Division Chair for Practical Theology and the Dean of the School of Theology and Ministry
Candidates must have a completed doctorate in an area of Christian worship studies.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Teaching courses as assigned, especially in areas of Christian worship such as introduction to worship, worship rituals, worship throughout the Christian year, discipling worshipers, history and philosophy of worship, and which may include general education in Bible and/or theology.
Oversee assessment of worship programs.
Ongoing scholarship in one’s area(s) of expertise, including participation in appropriate guilds.
Ongoing service to the university, the church, and the community, including committee work as assigned.
Other duties as assigned.
According to Indiana Wesleyan University employment policy all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.
Substantial experience in Christian worship including full-time worship leadership in the local church, strong musical training and proficiency in voice or instrument.
Teaching experience at the collegiate level is highly desirable.
Excellence in knowledge and skills in relation to the appropriate field(s).
Competence in teaching ability, along with an eagerness to improve.
A strong testimony of personal faith and commitment to Christ is essential, along with an agreement to live according to the IWU Community Lifestyle Statement.
An enthusiasm for the Wesleyan tradition and ability to function well within a community hosted by The Wesleyan Church.
