The School of Nursing is seeking candidates for a full-time tenure track or professional track teaching position in Adult/Gerontology (medical/surgical, and telemetry) Nursing in the undergraduate program (predominantly pre-licensure students in the nursing major) and throughout other post-licensure nursing programs (e.g. RN-BSN). Must meet California Board of Nursing qualifications for full time faculty which is one-year full time clinical experience in the past five years. Responsibilities will begin August 2020. Academic rank and compensation will be based on education and experience. The University and School of Nursing encourage applications from women and underrepresented minorities. The School of Nursing is traditional in learning format and includes over 220 students in the BSN program, with an additional 100 pre-nursing students. The RN-BSN program has over 130 students and is hybrid with face-to-face and online components. The MSN program has over 80 students in three clinical tracks (Family, Pediatrics, Adult/Gerontology) for the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) role and a general MSN with emphasis in Education or Business. We are seeking an experienced nurse educator to join the full time faculty in creatively responding to the education and learning needs of the nurse in the 21st century. This person will actively participate in the vision for the School of Nursing “The School of Nursing at Point Loma Nazarene University embraces, as a covenant, the commitment to excellence within a dynamic Christian environment in which each one will engage in the sacred work of nursing. This sacred work involves symbolically removing one’s shoes in service of others”.
Teach in both pre-licensure undergraduate and post-licensure graduate programs
Value the art of teaching/learning
Advise and mentor students
Actively participate in the governance and assessment processes of the School of Nursing
Serve on School of Nursing and University committees
Active service in the community and the profession of nursing
Engage in scholarship within the university and the profession of nursing
Active involvement in a local church
Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement
Supportive of the religious and educational goals of the University and its sponsoring denomination
DNP or PhD in Nursing, EdD or related field required
Experience in academic nursing education
Established track of nursing scholarship
Active RN licensure in California
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The work is primarily sedentary and may require sitting for extended periods of time. Use of computer equipment: computer keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Ability to read documents, email and other correspondence, and reports on paper and computer monitor. Hearing and speaking to communicate effectively with others in person and by phone. Ability to stand, stoop, push, pull, and lift up to 20 lbs throughout the day.
