Assistant/Associate Professor of Commercial Music and Director of the Johnny Mann Center for Commercial Music South Carolina School of the Arts Anderson University
The South Carolina School of the Arts at Anderson University invites applications for a full time Assistant or Associate Professor of Commercial Music and Director of the Johnny Mann Center for Commercial Music. The nine-month position is available for August 2020 and is eligible for annual reappointment with the possibility of future tenure-track appointment. Anderson University is a comprehensive, liberal arts institution affiliated with the South Carolina Baptist Convention. Candidates with a strong Christian value system, lifestyle, and commitment to the integration of faith and learning are encouraged to apply. Both rank and salary are commensurate with experience.
Expectations include gifted teaching, dynamic musical leadership, setting ambitious program goals, and recruiting commercial music students. Specific responsibilities include oversight of the Bachelor of Music in Commercial Music program, teaching commercial music courses and ensembles as assigned, producing commercial music performances, supervising a dynamic internship program, and cultivating student placement opportunities. The position includes additional undergraduate teaching responsibilities as determined by qualifications, institutional needs, and preference.
The successful candidate will serve as the director of Authenticity, a premier performance/show group of instrumental and vocal musicians, regularly performing popular music, jazz, contemporary Christian, and other commercial genres. Responsibilities include direction and management of a highly gifted and talented ensemble of students, preparing for careers in commercial music, instructing students for the achievement of superior stage presence, and live performance ability.

The South Carolina School of the Arts at Anderson University is a nationally recognized school that offers robust conservatory level training for professional visual, musical and theatrical artists who are serious about both their art and Christian faith. We mentor students to develop their craft to its fullest potential so they may thrive professionally and serve others through the arts. We believe that intense transformative mentorship inspires the current generation of student artists. Alumni are employed in the nation’s musical and theatrical centers and across the world.
The South Carolina School of the Arts offers Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Bachelor of Music, Bachelor of Music Education and Master of Music degrees with majors and concentrations in graphic design, painting and drawing, ceramics, art education, musical theatre, theatrical design, acting and directing, dance, commercial music, worship leadership, music education, and performance. Each of the three departments within the South Carolina School of the Arts are fully accredited by the appropriate national accrediting agencies (NASM, NASAD, and NAST).

The Johnny Mann Center for Commercial Music
Established in 2014, the Johnny Mann Center for Commercial Music is named in honor of the award-winning commercial composer and conductor Johnny Mann. A champion of the South Carolina School of the Arts at Anderson University, Mr. Mann served as an enthusiastic mentor/role model for commercial music students. The Johnny Mann Center is intended to support and cultivate the study of Commercial Music at Anderson University.
Vision - To be a premiere Center for learning, musicianship, creativity, entrepreneurship, music technology, career preparation, and professional development in Commercial Music.
Mission - To provide exceptional value-added learning experiences in Commercial Music through engagement with acclaimed guest artists and other experts, networking with influential commercial music professionals, internship placements in distinctive venues, application of state-of-the-art music technology, and expansion of the Johnny Mann archive collection to advance the study and performance of commercial music.

Qualifications: Significant professional performance experience in commercial music, extensive professional network with the potential for internship contacts, dynamic entrepreneurship in music business, and appropriate degree preparation in commercial music. Candidates should demonstrate strong musicianship and a successful record of teaching at the collegiate level.
Appropriate advanced degree work in music is required. Graduate work in commercial music is preferred. The position requires a leadership vision for mentoring young commercial musicians within the context of Christian ethics and faith. The successful candidate will demonstrate the servanthood and collegiality necessary to build a vibrant commercial music program on the campus of Anderson University.
