Columbia International University (CIU) is seeking an Apprenticeship Program Director.
CIU’s Apprenticeship Program is a church-centered approach to theological education that allows local congregations and CIU’s Seminary and School of Ministry to collaborate in preparing men and women for ministry. The seminary delivers biblical and theological content using internet-facilitated online courses in their local congregational contexts. Congregational leaders mentor participants in on-site activities that allow them to demonstrate their competency in formational and practical skills.
An applicant for the Apprenticeship Program Director position should have earned a doctoral degree from an accredited institution with content in a discipline area related to the practice of ministry. He/she should have extensive experience as a senior pastor on a multi-member church staff and some experience in theological education at the graduate level. Cross-cultural ministry experience is also preferred. He/she should have demonstrated skill in networking, building connections with local church leaders, cultivating relationships with prospective ministry sites and supervisors, recruiting and mentoring adult learners, and administering a program of theological education. He/she should understand the biblical-theological, spiritual, and practical aspects of ministry and should be proficient in the use of classroom and online instructional technology.
The Apprenticeship Program Director provides comprehensive recruitment, administrative, and instructional leadership of the program, including but not limited to the following responsibilities.
Travel to visit potential local church venues, locally, regionally, and nationally.
Network with local church leaders.
Establish partnerships with local congregations.
Represent the seminary and the program at conferences and through speaking engagements.
Develop comprehensive marketing and recruiting plans for the program.
Interact with and recruit prospective program participants.
Engage and train field mentors.
Coordinate evaluation of competency assessment projects/portfolios.
Work with other departments of the university to facilitate effective operation of the program.
Teach four courses per year in discipline areas related to the practice of ministry.
Assist program participants in planning their programs of study.
Provide vocational guidance for program participants.
Visit program participants in their local church settings.
