John Brown University, private, evangelical, and Christian, seeks a faculty member for Graduate Counseling to begin July 1, 2020, to join the dynamic Department of Graduate Counseling (DGC) in the College of Education and Human Services. Responsibilities include but are not limited to teaching (both on-ground and online), advising, supervising, and evaluation within the Master of Science in Counseling programs, in addition to institutional and committee service. This is a full-time faculty position located at the JBU Counselor Education Center in Siloam Springs, AR, with occasional travel to JBU’s Graduate School campus in Rogers, AR. This position reports to the Graduate Counseling Department Head.
The mission of the DGC is to provide Christ-centered counselor training that promotes professional development, academic excellence, and clinical competency. The DGC offers a Master of Science degree with majors in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Marriage & Family Therapy, and an emphasis in Play Therapy. JBU began offering graduate level counselor education in 1995 and the DGC was designated as an Approved Center of Play Therapy Education by the Association for Play Therapy (APT) in 2013. The DGC currently houses approximately 250 graduate students across two campus locations in Arkansas (Siloam Springs/Rogers and Little Rock). The DGC operates Community Counseling Clinics at both campus locations where low-cost counseling services are delivered to community members by JBU graduate counseling students under the direct supervision of departmental faculty.
An earned doctoral degree in Counselor Education & Supervision is necessary, preferably from a CACREP-accredited program. Must be licensure eligible in Arkansas as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or equivalent; supervision qualifications are also preferred. Candidates must have demonstrated skills in oral and written communication, counseling curriculum development, diverse educational delivery methodologies, clinical supervision/training, research, integration of faith and learning, mentoring, and student advising. Effective teaching experience both on-ground and online, evidence of scholarly potential, and a commitment to Christian higher education are essential. Ideal candidates will have proven teaching experience in counselor education at the graduate level.
Position begins July 1, 2020, with primary campus responsibilities in Siloam Springs, AR. Screening process begins immediately and continues until the position is filled.
