Higher Ed Administrative Careers - Financial Aid, Higher Ed Administrative Careers - Other
The Financial Counselor assists current and prospective students serviced by the School of Graduate and Continuing Studies (SGCS) with questions and processes related to financial aid and student accounts. The position is under the direct supervision of the SGCS Director of Financial Services and Operations and works closely with the Business and Financial Aid office.
The primary purpose of this position is to provide all prospects/students in the School of Graduate and Continuing Studies with prompt financial aid and student account assistance.
Responds to financial aid questions from prospective students.
Responsible for learning general eligibility criteria and verification guidelines for all aid administered.
Supports the efforts of all online and campus recruiters in the SGCS.
Provides estimates of aid and expenses to potential and admitted students.
Counsels applicants and admitted students to assist them in completing financial aid documents and to help them understand the financial aid process.
Manages student accounts and places holds on registration when appropriate.
Required to work occasional nights and weekends as recruitment and other events arise.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree required.
Expertise with Windows operating systems and Microsoft office products.
Strong Customer service skills.
Excellent communication, problem solving and conflict resolution skills (including telephone and interpersonal)
Basic math skills and problem solving background necessary.
Able to work effectively and efficiently under pressure, be diplomatic and attend accurately to details.
Ability to interpret and articulate procedures and options clearly and accurately.
Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion and good judgment.
Experience with Finance and Title IV funds preferred.
Experience working with adult learners preferred.
Able to multi-task
