Calvin University IT is looking for a Systems Engineer that can develop and manage desktop/endpoint management systems. Calvin is interested in candidates that have a desire to use modern desktop delivery principles such as application virtualization, thin provisioning, and cloud tools. This position supports the mission of the university by providing secure and stable IT services to the constituents of the university.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
The position is responsible for systems administration, installation, and maintenance of IT infrastructure (specifically, desktop/endpoint management systems).
Ensure operational integrity technology by maintaining service availability and addressing degradation.
Provide customer support/service. Provide support to the IT service organization through addressing requests and incidents as assigned.
Involved in projects to improve and enhance existing systems or implement new systems. This could include researching solutions, providing cost estimates, developing recommend designs and suggesting implementation schedules.
Develop and demonstrate customer service skills and relationship management with vendors
Implement security best practices for IT infrastructure.
Create documentation for user knowledgebase, internal process and procedures, and formal university policies.
Train junior staff in technical and service skills
Rotating 7x24 On call scheduling, depending on campus needs.
Provide work direction for student employees
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field from a four year university or university or equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
3 to 5 years of experience preferred.
Demonstrated experience with Microsoft System Center (SCCM) managing a large fleet of devices
Familiarity with Jamf Pro for managing Apple endpoints
Experience in developing and managing secure gold Windows and macOS images
Experience in application packaging for delivery and installation
Comfortable with writing and managing scripting languages such as PowerShell or Bash
Experience managing virtual desktops and technologies such as VMware and Amazon Workspaces
Familiarity with Microsoft Intune and other cloud endpoint technologies
Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS
