Under the direction of the Head of User Services, the Information Specialist 1 has primary responsibility to deliver information/reference services to students, faculty and others through in-person service and online service.
Required Education * Master’s degree in library science, library and information studies or similar required. ALA accredited preferred.
Required * Experience with electronic information systems and their application for information services. * Experience with reference/information services preferably in an academic library. * A demonstrated, vibrant Christian faith compatible with the mission of Azusa Pacific University.
Preferred * Evidence of continued professional development, involvement and contribution in the library field.
Primary Duties/Essential Functions * Deliver reference services and research assistance to students, faculty, and others in-person and online via email, LibAnswers, and chat. * Assigned duties can be between the hours 8 AM to 10 PM, Mon–Fri. * Provide individualized services as needed in the manner determined by the department
Skills * Experience with electronic information systems and their application for information services. * Commitment to working positively with a diverse patron base
Mental Demands * Ability to integrate Christian values in all aspects. * Ability to engage in critical thinking and exercise independent judgment. * Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage confidential information. * Self-starter, ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form.
Physical Demands * Requires repetitive motions and sitting at computer keyboard. * Hearing and speaking on the telephone. * Able to conduct business at other offices on campus. * Able to lift, bend, grasp, reach, lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally.
Visual Demands * Reading, writing notes, and computer monitor.
Environment * Pleasant office, comfortable temperature.
Technologies * Proficient in Google Apps., Microsoft Office, Word and Excel. * Integrated library systems such as Innovative Interfaces Sierra.
