Faculty Careers - Communication/Design/Media, Faculty Careers - Other
Calvin University is seeking a tenure-track faculty member to join the Communication Department to teach courses in the new Master of Arts in Media and Strategic Communication (pending HLC approval) program and in the undergraduate film and media program. Applicants should have active research/filmmaking agendas and have the ability to teach in the areas of filmmaking entrepreneurship, single-camera location, multi-cam studio, audio, post-production, and media storytelling. Preference will be given to candidates familiar with a liberal arts approach to teaching film and media production in a communication department. Candidates will be expected to contribute to teaching and advising at the undergraduate and graduate level. If a candidate has administrative experience and interest, the candidate also will be considered for the position of MMSC program director. The position is at open rank.

ABOUT THE MASTER OF ARTS IN MEDIA AND STRATEGIC COMMUNICATION
Students in the MMSC utilize storytelling and media to create effective, ethical, and purposeful messages that are mindful of audience, contexts, and practice whether in journalism, strategic communication, or other media projects. Our curriculum develops individual talent and skills within a collaborative working environment. The MMSC provides students additional opportunities to integrate theory, history, and criticism in the creation of storytelling for social media, strategic communication, or journalism careers.

If the program does not meet revenue projections, this faculty position will be phased out and the MMSC ended.
The standard teaching load is 21-24 semester hours distributed over two semesters and a January interim term. Faculty are expected to pursue an active scholarship agenda, to advise graduate and undergraduate students, and to serve on university and departmental committees.
Education and Experience
Faculty members are expected to demonstrate excellent teaching ability and a track record of (or strong potential for) scholarly work. Successful candidates will have either 1) a PhD or other terminal degree in film and media studies and/or communication-related degree, or 2) a master’s degree in film and media studies and/or related communication field and five or more years of applicable experience.
