Higher Ed Administrative Careers - Student Affairs/Student services
Scope of Responsibilities:
To promote diversity, equity, and inclusion programming and student care within Student Affairs, advise the administration (president, president’s cabinet, and president’s advisory council) on issues related to diversity and underrepresented student populations, and additional duties (up to 1/3 of the position) aligned with both the chosen applicant’s skills/gifting and the practical and missional needs of the institution.
Participate in the management and growth of the Student Affairs department in providing quality programs and resources that enable “every student to belong and become” in a healthy and God-honoring community.
Completing projects and programs that contribute to the advancement and assessment of Grace College’s purpose, vision, and strategic plan.
Serve on institutional standing committees and ad hoc committees as directed by the President or Associate Vice President of Student Affairs.
Assist with student retention efforts, which may include meeting with students of concern and coordination with other campus services and staff.
Attend conferences and training as needed to perform the job more effectively.
Manage financial accounts as assigned by the AVP/Dean of Student Affairs.
Attend various regular meetings including faculty meetings, Presidents Advisory Council (PAC), Student Affairs Directors, general employee meetings (GEM), in-services, and one-on-ones with the President and AVP, Student Affairs.
Specific Duties in Student Diversity and Inclusion – 65%
Meet routinely with the president for updates and advisement regarding issues of importance to minority students and multicultural issues.
Actively serve as the advisor for the Black Student Association (BSA) attending meetings and programs, mentoring student leaders, and providing vision.
Provide individual support to students regarding social identity, spirituality, and cultural differences and serve as a liaison between students and the faculty/administration, especially in the president’s advisory council and student affairs staff meetings.
Assist with recruiting and retention of students of color - meeting with prospective students/families, connecting with deposited students prior to matriculation, and engaging students considering withdraw or transfer.
Collaborate with student organizations, athletic teams, and departments on program initiatives around diversity and inclusion.
Serve as a member of the campus Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee.
Assist the Director of Student Involvement with advising and training the Council for Diversity and Inclusion.
Participate in regional and national diversity opportunities for the purposes of professional development and representation of Grace College.
Participate in and improve orientation initiatives for new minority students.
Additional Duties and Responsibilities to be Determined 35%
The scope, intent, and particulars of these duties and responsibilities will be confirmed in a revised job description prior to the chosen applicant’s start date.
Effort will be made to align these duties and responsibilities with both the applicant’s skills/gifting and the practical/missional needs of the institution.
Intentionality and care will be taken to ensure the chosen applicants opportunity to be successful in completing the general duties of the position, the specific responsibilities related to multicultural student affairs, and these additional items.
These additional duties could result in a modification to the position title(s), in coordination with human resources.

Master’s degree in a related field (or completion of an earned Master’s degree within one year of hire)
One to three (1 – 3) years’ experience in Student Affairs or a related field.
Experience and passion for issues of diversity, reconciliation, advocacy, and social justice in higher education environments.
Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
Must enjoy students, be a good listener, and have a mindset of mentoring
Must be familiar with intercultural and multicultural ministry and worship trends.
Self-motivated with an optimistic personality and excellent social skills.
Needs to have a collaborative, team-player mentality.
Must be a good counselor, able to sift through questions and address issues in a relevant way.
Communicate effectively in one-on-one, small group, and public speaking contexts.
Write clear, precise, well-organized emails, letters, and proposals.
Master’s degree or Doctorate degree (PhD, EdD, or DMin) with five years’ experience in multicultural student affairs or intercultural campus ministries.
