School of Cinema and Media Arts Position Summary: The School of Cinema and Media Arts at Biola University invites applications for a professor of entertainment business as a full-time teaching faculty member. Position Description: The ideal candidate has professional experience at the studio executive, producer or agent level for the creation, packaging, branding, distribution or marketing of media content using analytics to inform decision-making and experience in managing teams. Candidates may come from the academy or entertainment industry. Candidates should be active in their fields, with a strong record of professional achievement that is both innovative and nationally recognized. Candidates with experience in new business models that employ media such as online, mobile, and streaming technologies, as well as social media marketing tools are especially encouraged to apply. Candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to teach the techniques, practices, histories and/or theories of business affairs, film & TV packaging, studio management, talent management, distribution, foreign sales, media management or marketing with an awareness of the current professional practices and a desire to inspire students and faculty. Evidence of some college-level teaching experience is preferred. Broadly, responsibilities include participation in the development and growth of the Producing program, including a potential future Entertainment Business MFA or MBA program. Teaching introductory and upper-division undergraduate courses. Advising students, developing new innovative curriculum and participating in faculty governance. For purposes of reappointment, promotion, and tenure, emphasis will be placed on teaching effectiveness, creative and/or scholarly achievement, and service to the university and community. Depending on the candidate's qualifications, assigned courses may support the university’s other undergraduate majors, graduate programs, and the university core curriculum. The typical undergraduate teaching load is four courses per semester. The position is a full-time assistant or associate faculty role with competitive salary and benefits. The anticipated start is the Fall 2020 semester. An MBA, MFA, JD, or Ph.D. in a related field is preferred. Department and University Overview: The School of Cinema and Media Arts explores the creation, history, and theory of media from cinema to television to game design to alternative media to emerging technologies. The school offers degree programs in production, writing, producing and game design and supports programs with business, art, computer science, theater, music composition, and interdisciplinary studies. The school has almost 300 undergraduate majors and is experiencing substantial growth. It is located 20 miles southeast of Los Angeles. It is internationally ranked in Variety and other publications. Biola University serves a student body of over 6,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
