POSITION DESCRIPTION
Geneva College invites applications for a Tenure Track Faculty Position in Political Science. This position begins in August 2020 and the search will remain open until the position is filled. Financial support during the summer may be available to prepare for the “Great Issues” course, if required. All faculty ranks will be considered. Rank and Salary will depend on qualifications. SUMMARY
The candidate will be expected to teach the “Great Issues” course in Political Science that is required of all Geneva students. Ideally, the candidate would be able to teach in International and Comparative Politics, but candidates with expertise in other sub-fields or with the ability to teach in Geneva’s Humanities program would be considered. The College is seeking a student-centered, innovative leader and teacher.
Applicants must be academically qualified, possess a record of successful scholarship and teaching excellence, demonstrate an understanding of the practice of faith integration, and be committed to function as an integrated team member of the History, Political Science, and Sociology Department as well as the Core Studies Department. The candidate will report to the Chair of the History, Political Science, and Sociology Department and the Chair of the Core Studies Department.
The departments place a high value on student-faculty interaction and the selected candidate will be expected to be engaged beyond the classroom. The successful applicant will promote the Political Science program to current and new students with a goal of increasing Political Science enrollments and building the major program. This would include participating in recruiting events and providing academic advising for students from any area of Political Science. Faculty are also required to serve on committees of the faculty, when elected or appointed. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled.

The successful candidate will be expected to fulfill the following:
CHRISTIAN COMMITMENT
The candidate must be a thoughtful and articulate Christian and an active member of a Protestant evangelical church. Candidates must support and have an articulate understanding of the Reformed faith. The individual must understand and support the College’s doctrinal position as stated in the College Charter and the “Foundational Concepts of Christian Education” by expressing an evangelical Christian profession of faith and demonstrate the ability to integrate a Christian perspective in their work.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Faculty appointed to teach Political Science must be committed to teach accurately and positively the doctrine of civil government contained in the Constitution of the RPCNA, which includes the RP Testimony. Ideally, candidates will be familiar with the history and political philosophy of the Scottish Reformation including Covenanter political philosophy.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Political Science, but candidates with a J.D., doctoral degree in a closely related field or are ABD will be considered as long as the candidate can demonstrate that they have the professional and academic experience that would prepare them to teach in the areas listed above. Candidates that are ABD must be committed to completing the required work to finish the doctorate.

Typical educational setting. Geneva College is organized around academic departments. The position is in the departments of History, Political Science, and Sociology and Core Studies. Teaching is at the undergraduate level and primarily on ground, but the College is developing on-line courses at the undergraduate level, so a willingness to teach on-line would be a plus.
