Located in the beautiful upstate region of South Carolina, Southern Wesleyan University (SWU) is a Christ-centered, student-focused learning community devoted to transforming lives by challenging students to be dedicated scholars and servant leaders who impact the world for Christ. Along with a vibrant, traditional undergraduate on-campus program, SWU offers online programs of study for both undergraduate and graduate degrees.
Southern Wesleyan University’s College of Arts and Sciences invites applications for a visiting (temporary) assistant professor of English faculty position in the Humanities Division. This is a three-semester (Spring 2020, Fall 2020, Spring 2021), non-tenure-track position that will begin January, 2020. The ideal candidate will be equipped, through a combination of academic preparation and experience, to teach lower-level, upper-level, and composition courses in English. An additional 18 graduate hours in Speech, Communication, and/or Theatre would be a plus, though not a requirement for consideration. This position reports to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. The university is actively seeking to increase the number of women and minorities within its faculty.
Primary teaching responsibilities will be in SWU’s traditional English program, with possible additional teaching opportunities in the SWU Online Program. Additional responsibilities include collecting student learning outcomes assessment data from courses taught and serving on assigned committees related to university functions.
An earned doctorate in English is preferred; an earned master’s in English is required.
Preference will be given to applicants with previous teaching and administrative experience.
Possessing the qualifications (18 graduate hours in Speech, Communication, and/or Theatre) to also teach courses in Speech would be a plus.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable and familiar with the use of technology within the academic environment, including distance learning and learning management systems, web-based, and PC applications, including all Microsoft Office applications.
