Eastern Nazarene College (ENC), a four-year Christian liberal arts college on Boston’s south shore, is seeking a Director of Career and Professional Development to provide career development services and activities to increase the career preparedness of students and to develop job and internship prospects for students and alumni. Reporting to the V.P. of Student Development and Student Services, you will be an active member of the Student Success team with an opportunity to engage in the envisioning of a student success center at ENC. The ideal candidate will have a Master’s Degree in Counseling, Student Development, Higher Education Administration or related degree with 1-2 years of experience in career development/career services. Must have a strong desire to work in a collaborative environment that serves a diverse population, and must support the traditions and values of Christian higher education in a busy educational institution.
Develop, publicize and market career events and services to better educate and involve campus community in career development issues and services
Conduct systematic need assessments to guide the career services programming.
Conduct yearly first destination and alumni career surveys and writing annual reports and summaries of job, internship, and graduate school attainment
Coordinate career programming by collaborating with academic departments and student groups
Develop and implement plans for enhanced employer relations, cultivating job and internship possibilities with area employers and with alumni
Coordinate recruiting days, company visits, and job fairs
Oversee the internship program by assisting students in finding internships, developing internship resources, and working with faculty to administer the program.
Counsel students and alumni in the areas of career development (decision making, resumes, interviewing, job search, graduate school)
Keep abreast of career trends and job market information, disseminating information to the campus community
Write/edit career newsletters and class emails
Represent the college at professional organizations and conferences
Teach courses in career/vocation development and decision-making.
Review, update, and develop career services website.
Interpret interest, personality, and temperament type inventories and relate the results to career decision making and team dynamics.
Provide academic advising to students who are undecided in their college major choice.
Participate in regular supervisory meetings with the Brickley Center Director.
Attend professional workshops and meetings and read journals to stay current in field.
Master’s Degree in Counseling, Student Development, Higher Education Administration or related degree with 1-2 years of experience in career development/career services.
Candidates must possess high value and appreciation for the Church of the Nazarene and a thoughtful understanding of the Wesleyan Holiness tradition. A committed Christian faith evident in daily life, and support for the mission and educational philosophy of the College is required (see statement of faith requirement in application instructions).
Strong counseling, oral presentation, and written communication skills required.
Must be a strong self-motivator.
Relational so as to assist with the establishment of internal and external networks (ENC, companies, alumni, industry specific)
Mature; able to handle crisis situations, strong and difficult emotions and fears with tact and skill; sound judgment
Ability to understand and communicate with college-age adults and older student and alumni populations
Strong decision-making and problem-solving ability
Organizational skills and leadership ability
Flexibility and ability to adapt to different situations
