Roberts Wesleyan College, located in Rochester, NY, invites candidates to apply for a full-time (9 month), tenure track faculty position beginning July 1, 2020. The Teacher Education programs are housed in the School of Education and Social Work on our park-like campus in Rochester New York, providing the program with the advantages of a suburban setting within a vibrant metropolitan area.
Roberts Wesleyan College is a comprehensive, Christian college of the liberal arts, sciences, and professions serving approximately 1800 traditional and nontraditional students at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The College is committed to integrating a Christian worldview with learning in order to prepare thoughtful, spiritually mature, service-oriented people who will help transform society. Roberts has more than 60 undergraduate programs/majors, including 6 different adult-degree completion programs, 14 graduate programs, and 12 online programs; our first doctoral program launched in 2016. The Department of Teacher Education is one of the largest departments at Roberts Wesleyan College with over 300 undergraduate and graduate students. Undergraduate education majors include Early Childhood/Special Education, Childhood/Special Education, Adolescence Education, K-12 Music Education, Art Education, and K-12 Physical Education. The Department offers M.Ed. programs leading to initial certification in Childhood/Special Education and Adolescence/Students with Disabilities 7-12 Generalist, and M.Ed. programs leading to professional certification in Literacy and Special Education. The M.Ed. program for initial certification is a hybrid model. The M.Ed. in Special Education is a fully online program, and the M.Ed. in Literacy program is both online and face-to-face. The Department also offers a non-traditional cohort-based modular program called Pathway to Teaching that provides an alternate route for adult learners to complete a B.S. degree that leads to initial certification at the childhood or adolescent level. Candidates will find this is an exciting time to join the Department of Teacher Education at Roberts.
Required qualifications include an earned doctorate in a relevant educational field and professional teaching certification. Preference will be given to individuals with college-level teaching and administrative experience. Specialized expertise in secondary education, literacy, special education, assessment-driven instruction, educational technology, and/or educational research is highly desirable. Candidates must have a record of at least five years of effective teaching at the elementary, middle, secondary, and/or collegiate level, and demonstrate a commitment to engage in education-related scholarship. Candidates must be highly skilled and flexible: able to teach a wide variety of education courses to undergraduate and graduate students in traditional and nontraditional programs, including online courses. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to the integration of Christian faith and professional practice and a willingness to support the College’s Christian mission and identity.
Teaching responsibilities would include both undergraduate and graduate level courses in various areas to be determined based on areas of expertise. Additional responsibilities include serving on department and college committees, advising teacher education students, supervising student teachers, collaborating to develop new programs and community partnerships, and preparing for accreditation. While the primary focus for faculty is teaching, effective faculty performance will also include service, profession-related activity, and scholarship.
