Friends University invites applications for a full-time faculty member in Music Theatre and Dance to support a new BA in Music Theatre degree program begun in Fall 2019. This position is a three year Visiting Assistant Professor faculty appointment with the possibility of extension, and reports to the Chair of the Division of Fine Arts. The ideal candidate will hold an MFA in Music Theatre, Acting or Dance with 3-5 years teaching experience and professional theatre or dance experience beyond the academic arena. The successful applicant will work with the Chair of Fine Arts in providing leadership and vision for the new music theatre degree program.

EXPECTATIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
Assignments in teaching are based upon the candidate’s credentials and the division’s curricular needs, which may include the following:
Music Theatre Dance, Jazz, Tap and related Movement Practice
Music Theatre Survey
Music Theatre Workshop
Direct or choreograph Music Theatre productions (as assigned) in Friends’ annual fine arts performance season.
Additional practicum courses may be available in the candidate’s area of expertise, such as auditioning, acting styles, or movement skills. Movement skills could include, but are not limited to, Dance Composition, Contact Improvisation, Stage Combat, or Movement practices such as: Alexander technique, Mime, Laban Movement Analysis, Williamson technique, or Viewpoints.
Additional duties include:
Recruiting students for the musical theatre program
Advising and mentoring students in career planning
Overseeing the budget and production schedule of the musical theatre program
Serving on university-wide committees
The successful candidate will hold a MFA in Music Theatre, Acting or Dance or equivalent performing experience, prior teaching experience, a record of artistic/scholarly achievement, and professional experience in music theatre.
The university prefers to hire a candidate who holds MFA in Music Theatre, Acting or Dance with 3-5 years college teaching experience, a record of artistic/scholarly achievement and professional experience in acting or directing.
Rank and salary are commensurate with education and experience.
