Faculty Careers - Health Professions, Faculty Careers - Other
Position is a full-time 12-month faculty appointment with administrative, academic, service and scholarship responsibilities consistent with the mission and philosophy of the Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program and Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) as well as accreditation standards as set forth by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE). The qualified individual will demonstrate competence in clinical education, teaching, and curriculum development. The DCE primary responsibilities are to plan, coordinate, facilitate, administer, and monitor clinical education activities on behalf of the DPT program and in coordination with academic and clinical faculty.
Note: The start date for this position would be January 1, 2020.
Program director for the Doctor of Physical Therapy program
Dean School of Health Sciences
Minimum required – A Doctor of Physical Therapy degree or a lower level physical therapy degree with a terminal degree such as PhD, DHS, EdD, etc.
Preferred educational requirements – DPT and terminal degree with ABPTS specialization. Earned status as an APTA Credentialed Clinical Instructor preferred.
Certificates and/or licenses required – A current PT license with eligibility for licensure in Indiana.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop, monitor and refine the clinical education component of the curriculum.
Facilitate quality-learning experiences for students during clinical education and integrated clinical experiences that integrate with the didactic portion of the curriculum.
Evaluate students’ performance, in cooperation with other faculty, to determine their ability to integrate didactic and clinical learning experiences and to progress within the curriculum.
Manage administrative responsibilities consistent with CAPTE, federal/state regulations, institutional policy, and practice setting requirements; participate in the preparation of accreditation documentation and outcome performance assessment of students in the DPT program.
Develop and provide documented records and assessment of the clinical education component including clinical education sites, clinical instructors, etc.
Actively collaborate with core faculty in clinical education planning, implementation, and assessment.

Knowledge of principles, methods, and current developments in the field of physical therapy and healthcare. Expertise in a clinical areas such as advocacy, pediatrics, occupational analysis, assistive technology, management, leadership, gerontology, neurology, orthopedics, and/or research although those with other areas of expertise will be considered.
Identification of clinical needs of students based on the academic curriculum design and accreditation standards.
Skills for evaluation of the impact of clinical teaching on the teaching-learning process and implement modifications as appropriate.
Skills to coordinate with clinical instructors in constructive and cooperative working relationships with community based therapists, clinics, and community agencies.
Skills in the use of computers, internet resources, MS Office, Outlook/email, and Clinical Education software.
