Mount Vernon Nazarene University (MVNU) is an intentionally Christian teaching university for traditional age students, graduate students and working adults who seek opportunities to learn and grow in an academic community of faith. The university seeks a full-time, 12-month, Campus Sound Coordinator for its Information Technology Services (ITS) office on the Mount Vernon main campus. The position reports to the Assistant Director of Technology Support and is available immediately, upon appointment of a successful candidate. The University pay grade for this position is “C”, with a starting rate of $12.78/hour, which may be adjusted based on qualifications and experience. A full complement of benefits is provided including a health care plan, retirement contributions and tuition assistance, each subject to associated waiting periods. The candidate will also receive generous holidays, as well as vacation and sick days earned on an accrual basis.
Responsibilities for the position include:
Oversee live sound and media for campus events, to include but not limited to mixing for Front of House, monitors, broadcast audio, visual and lighting presentation, and audio recording (evenings and weekends as needed)
Hire, train, and organize a student workforce to cover various events and duties
Be available to manage events and resolve issues via phone, text, and email during off-hours
Be present at high-profile events to coordinate with officiators and oversee student crew
Maintain live sound and media equipment and provide support for media technologies across campus
Communicate with internal and external clients to organize technology for live events
Keep a schedule of upcoming campus events with notes detailing specific needs
Must be familiar with the following:
A broad selection of modern digital mixing consoles (particularly Yamaha-branded mixers)
Standard microphone placement techniques
Basic live audio system design
Digital audio workstations (e.g. Logic Pro X, Pro Tools)
Media production and presentation software such as: PowerPoint, ProPresenter, Mainstage, Final Cut Pro X, Adobe Photoshop, Audition, and Premier
A basic understanding of theater lighting systems
Other campus sound duties as assigned.
Expectations for the successful candidate:
Evangelical Christian confession of faith and mission fit
High School degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred
One or more years of experience in all aspects of media systems
Experience in college/university environment preferred
Good public relations skills
Ability to be flexible and calm under pressure
Excellent interpersonal skills and team spirit
Ability to work with people in stressful situations
Multitasking in a high energy environment
Excellent time management and organizational skills
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
