The university seeks a full-time, 12-month, Infrastructure Technician for its Information Technology Services (ITS) office on the Mount Vernon main campus. The position reports the Assistant Director for Infrastructure Services and is available immediately, upon appointment of a successful candidate. The University pay grade for this position is “C”, with a starting rate of $12.78/hour, which may be adjusted based on qualifications and experience. A full complement of benefits is provided including a health care plan, retirement contributions and tuition assistance, each subject to associated waiting periods. The candidate will also receive generous holidays, and vacation and sick days earned on an accrual basis.
Responsibilities for the position include:
Installation of cabling and maintenance of existing LAN cabling plant including cabling to computers, projectors, media devices, wireless access points, printers, and telephones
Respond to network outages and anomalies in a timely manner, including off-hours, and help perform network infrastructure upgrades with minimal disruption
Maintain and expand upon the existing physical access control door system and existing surveillance camera system in collaboration with IT Team members and Campus Safety
Assist in troubleshooting network endpoints (wired or wireless)
Work closely with the student Wi-Fi support team
Troubleshoot physical connections to cable TV provider
Assist in troubleshooting server software and hardware related issues
Other duties as assigned.
Expectations for the successful candidate:
Evangelical Christian confession of faith and mission fit
Bachelor’s Degree (or equivalent IT experience) required; degree in Computer Science or IT-related field preferred
Ability to work non-standard hours (evenings, weekends, and holidays) when required
Experience with network cable installation and maintenance required
Experience terminating CAT 5e and CAT 6 cables required
Experience installing telecommunications patch panels, racks, and cabinets preferred
Experience with installation and support of wireless access points preferred
Experience with media and protocols preferred- twisted pair, fiber optics, VOIP, Ethernet, wireless, QOS, IP, SNMP, DNS, and DHCP
Experience with Cisco network electronics preferred
Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously
Ability to document work processes and clearly communicate progress with other team members
Experience in college/university environment preferred
Excellent interpersonal skills and team spirit
