Higher Ed Administrative Careers - Diversity, Higher Ed Administrative Careers - Student Affairs/Student services
4 Year Degree
Occupational Summary: Houghton College is a nationally ranked Christian liberal arts college dedicated to providing an educational experience that supports the interests, dreams and goals of our students. As the college’s enrollment of ethnically diverse students (both from the US and other nations) has increased, so have their needs for support, services, advocacy and programming. This position will oversee this institutional work of support, as well as provide learning opportunities for the whole campus community.
Unique to Houghton will be that this will be done within a campus ministry context. As such, we acknowledge that the work of becoming a welcoming community to people of all different racial and ethnic backgrounds is not simply bowing to a “politically correct” culture; it is Gospel work which we do for our students and as a Christian service and witness to the world. Students will see this Director not only as “the diversity person,” but as a member of a robust campus ministry staff, whose words and actions carry weight on all sorts of issues, not only those immediately related to diversity.
This, however, does not mean that the applicant must be a professional or ordained minister; people from any professional background can apply, whether scholars, teachers, Higher Ed professionals, pastors, or others.

Work with Student Life/Spiritual Life staff to improve cultural competence among college faculty and staff (i.e. Residence Life, Center for Academic Success and Advising, Financial Aid, Safety and Security, Student Conduct, etc.)
In concert with the Dean of the Chapel, find ways to use your unique gifts and background to help build a community that reflects God’s heart for diverse people. This may involve teaching a course, preaching in chapel, leading a book study, offering spiritual direction, conducting workshops, etc.
The successful candidate will have:
Master’s Degree preferred, preferably in fields related to pastoral ministries or intercultural studies
Strong interpersonal gifts and presentational skills
Related experience, in work related to diversity, spiritual formation or pastoral/campus ministry work
Experience in a culturally diverse church and community
