The Campus Nurse serves as a member of the Student Development team. The Campus Nurse provides comprehensive health care and health education for University students. This is a part time position that job-shares with another medical professional.
Duties and Responsibilities
Obtain medical histories and perform physical examinations.
Discriminate between normal and abnormal health examination findings.
Diagnose medical conditions/injuries and provide appropriate treatment or referral to collaborative physician.
Maintain and monitor relationship with collaborative physician, including review of charts, prescription and laboratory tests, receive regular supervision form the physician
Order appropriate laboratory tests and accurately interpret laboratory reports, or refer for physician interpretation.
Provide immunizations as needed.
Provide written summaries of contacts with clients in a timely and accurate manner and maintain confidentiality of student information.
Be available to residence life staff members, counseling center staff members, athletics staff members and others, to provide consultation and medical assistance for emergency situations.
Provide health services at various events such as weekend retreats, registration events, residence life programming, and other special events.
Serve as medical personnel on campus retreats—one in the fall and one in the spring.
Collaborate with other departments on campus to provide health education to students.
Collaborate with Athletic staff members to provide continuity of care for student athletes.
Supervise student assistants.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Licensed in Colorado as a Registered Nurse, but a Nurse Practitioner is preferred.
Licensed for prescriptive authority or working towards it (if applicable as an NP).
Experience in primary care.
Experience in Microsoft Office programs preferred.
Familiar with database programs. Training for CCU's specific systems will be provided, but a prior general understanding will be helpful.
Able to work independently as well as collaborate with staff members in other departments and physicians.
Able to work with and relate well to college students.
Able to work in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Flexible and adaptable.
Nature of Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, you may be required to walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, speak with clarity, have appropriate vision and hearing capabilities. Requires sitting at a desk and working on a computer for extended periods of time. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. May be required to work occasional irregular hours, including some nights and weekends.
