The Director of Prospect Development and Strategy directs the prospect development and strategy program at Eastern University. Responsible for creatively synthesizing prospect data and drawing upon information obtained through data analytics and prospect research to develop and manage successful prospect goal and cultivation strategies in support of fundraising and campaign priorities. The Director is responsible for prioritizing new major and planned gift suspects and prospects, and for supporting front-line fundraisers through the facilitation of a systematized approach to prospect management and tracking. Uses research and analytics to ensure potential top prospects are identified and qualified into the major/planned gifts pipeline system and with leadership gift officers to ensure these prospects are systematically moved through the moves management process in a timely manner and with an agreed upon gift strategy.
Implements and manages a comprehensive program of proactive, quality prospect research (biographic, financial, and philanthropic) to support cultivation and solicitation activity by Advancement staff, campus partners (such as Deans, Athletic Director, etc.) and campaign volunteers, as appropriate.
Focuses on identifying, qualifying and managing donors and prospects through the cultivation and solicitation pipeline in support of key Advancement and campaign priorities. Based on knowledge of these prospects the director will help to project campaign prospect capacity to achieve stated goals throughout the campaign.
Facilitates the day-to-day functionality of the prospect management and tracking system developed to allow EU to move systematically and thoughtfully a large volume of prospects through the development stages in order to maximize fundraising success.
Develops and continue refining major gifts prospect lists in support of key campaign priorities including the creation and management of gift pyramids for each major project and for the overall campaign.
Prioritizes and manages research requests according to institutional and division level priorities.
Works creatively and closely with the Vice President and Associate Vice President to motivate front-line fundraisers to focus on qualification assignments and proposals to move prospects through the cultivation and solicitation cycle and to keep appropriate focus on proportional individual stewardship.
Develops supportive and productive relationships and serves as the liaison between the front-line fundraisers and Advancement Services to coordinate the prospect management and tracking system.
Refines and maintains a process for allocation of new prospects.
Maintains prospect research fields of data in the Raiser’s Edge database.
Maintain policies and standard operating procedures for the prospect development and strategy program
Facilitates prospect management meetings. Provides a quarterly portfolio review and assessment for front-line fundraisers.
Works with the Office of the President to provide timely and accurate biographies for individual meetings with major donor prospects.
Develop and maintain professional relationships with local prospect development professionals, as well as national and local associations.
Review local and national news and business publications, keeping abreast of prospect information and local and regional business and economic trends.
Keeps abreast of trends in philanthropy, charitable giving and the central issues of fundraising at Eastern University.

Drive for Results - Actively supports the continuous improvement of policies to reduce inefficiencies and better achieve goals. Respectfully holds people accountable for the quality of their work and minimal errors. Strives to achieve challenging goals and works through obstacles.
Talent Development - Sets appropriate targets and provides open and constructive feedback to front-line fundraising team. Shares growth opportunities within the University and motivates team to build on the capabilities required to progress. Proactively spends time with Advancement colleagues to build rapport.
The Director of Prospect Development and Strategy will maintain the professional and ethical standards set forth for the field by the Association of Professional Researchers for Advancement (APRA).
The Director of Prospect Development and Strategy requires a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of five years in prospect development or equivalent field. Candidates should be proficient in using relational databases, understand information management and have hands-on experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Excel and Access, Research Point or Wealth Engine and other appropriate electronic resources; experience in The Raiser’s Edge is preferred.
Candidates should be able to demonstrate: excellent interpersonal skills; proficiency in writing clearly and concisely; the ability to appropriately use and manage sensitive and confidential data; excellent time management skills, including the ability to work well under deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously; proven success at establishing and achieving quantified objections; ability and desire to work independently and as part of a team.
