Higher Ed Administrative Careers - Academic Advising
The Life Directions Center (LDC) Advisor position reports to the Director of the Life Directions Center. The purpose of the LDC is to equip authentic disciples of Christ to discern their life calling, achieve academic success, and engage in meaningful service.
Duties and Responsibilities
Provide mentoring for a cohort of students, approximately half of the students in a given class (freshmen, sophomore, junior, or senior). A typical cohort ranges from 125-175 students. This holistic mentoring includes academic care, personal care, and spiritual care.
Provide academic advising to students, helping with major exploration and confirmation, course selection, and adherence to a degree plan to ensure timely graduation and assist the student in pursuing opportunities to meet their academic goals.
Update and maintain detailed records of students' academic progress using office tools and university database system. Provide students with documentation to re-cap and remind them of items discussed with their advisor.
Provide expertise and oversight for ADA services. Assist students with general information for the other service areas overseen by the LDC.
Work with faculty, Deans, and the Registrar's Office (Service Central) to ensure cohesive communication regarding academic requirements.
Assist students with a variety of other topics including: God’s calling on their life; their faith journey; service to others; personal, spiritual, and interest assessments; as well as academic and life goals.
Plan and facilitate relevant events and programs with the rest of the Life Directions Center team.
Support CCU's Student Life department through involvement in campus-wide programming, committees, and events.
Other duties as may be assigned by the LDC Director.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required, with a Master's degree in Student Development, Education, or related field preferred.
Two-three years experience working in Christian higher education preferred.
Passion for helping students deepen their relationship with God and develop as the man or woman of God they are designed to be.
Experience or strong interest in one or more of the service areas defined above.
Proficient with Microsoft Office, experience using and maintaining a shared database system, and a willingness to learn new technology.
Self-starter, personable, organized, and a team player.
Strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills for personalized service to students.
Excellent at balancing multiple priorities and a large number of meetings in a very fast-paced environment, especially during high-demand periods of a semester.
Adapts quickly and cheerfully to changing priorities and processes.
Enjoys learning, being stretched professionally, and creative problem solving.
Certification and/or experience with personality, interest, and strengths assessments preferred (Examples: MBTI, Strong, StrengthsQuest).
Nature of Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, you may be required to walk, stand, sit, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, speak with clarity, and have appropriate vision and hearing capabilities. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. You may be required to work occasional irregular hours, including some nights and weekends. Colorado Christian University expects all faculty and staff to become a part of the University community by participating in activities and events that occur on the campus throughout the year, which may occur during evenings and weekends.
