MidAmerica Nazarene University, located in Olathe Kansas, invites qualified candidates to apply for an Assistant/Associate Professor in Sociology. The position is a full-time faculty appointment. Candidates for this position should be able demonstrate a commitment to higher education delivered with a Christ-centered worldview, a strong commitment to the servant leadership model, and be able to successfully perform the following responsibilities.
Teaches General Sociology and other sociology elective courses that fit with specific interests and qualifications. Department course needs currently include Marriage and Family, Social Theory, Cultural and Social Anthropology, Sociology of Religion, Casework and Intervention, and Understanding Multicultural Behavior.
Advises sociology students in the areas of course selection and graduate school planning.
Provides leadership for the sociology program within the Department of Social and Behavioral Sciences and assists the Department Chair with program management tasks.
Engages in sociology program growth strategies.
Participates in scholarly activities.
Provides leadership for the minor degree program in social justice.
Serves on Departmental and University committees.
Works collegially with Departmental and cross campus faculty.
Desired Qualifications: Each candidate should meet the following qualifications.
Evidence of high-quality teaching and desire to actively participate in student mentorship is highly preferred.
A doctorate in sociology. ABD with strong experience will be considered.
A record of successful experience in higher education and/or other educational environments, including mentoring students in sociological research and writing.
A track record as a collaborative, servant-driven leader with outstanding written, oral, and interpersonal skills.

Statement of Faith: MidAmerica Nazarene University is an intentionally Christian Community and desires that all employees in positions of leadership reflect a foundational Christian position in word, attitude and action. While there is no predetermined length or format for the Personal Statement of Faith, the norm is a one or two page narrative document describing the applicant’s central Christian beliefs, significant formative influences in the applicant’s Christian experience (e.g., religious experiences of conversion or the affirmation of one’s faith, one’s family and/or home life, spiritual aspirations), and ways in which the applicant’s faith is being demonstrated in daily patterns and practices.
Review of application will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Position start date if July 1, 2019.
