Bethel University is seeking to fill a full-time Tenure Track faculty position in Sign Language Interpreting, beginning in the fall of 2019.
Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses in American Sign Language Interpreting, team teaching interpreting courses, student recruitment, public relations, assessment, and involvement in the university community and the ASL community. Faculty members are also expected to maintain active scholarship and participate in professional development activities.
The position will remain open until qualified candidate is hired.
M.A. required, Ph.D. preferred, in the area of Interpreting Studies, Deaf Studies, Sign Language Education, Linguistics, Deafness, or related field. National certification recognized by Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf required. Experience teaching ASL Interpreting at the post-secondary level preferred.
A successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to Christian Liberal Arts education and working in a bicultural environment as well as skill in curriculum development and the evaluation of student language skills. He or she will support multicultural competence initiatives and involvement in the d/Deaf community. Additionally, while Bethel University is affiliated with the Missionary Church, its faculty members encompass a variety of Christian denominations; all are expected to exhibit a vibrant Christian faith and relevance of faith commitments to their disciplines and professions.
