Description: King University is seeking a Director of the Counseling Center. This position is a full-time, 12-month employee responsible to provide short-term individual counseling, group counseling, crisis intervention, and educational and prevention services to university students.
Responsibilities: The Director of the Counseling Center works to make the counseling center a visible part of campus life by providing individual and group counseling to students; crisis intervention, threat assessment, and outreach efforts. Counseling services are also provided to faculty and staff (as availability allows). The Director of the Counseling Center coordinates educational and prevention programs that focus on the developmental needs of university students to promote personal adjustment and growth. Consultative services are offered to faculty, staff, and coaches to address developmental needs and concerns of students. The Director of the Counseling Center also oversees the operations of the campus counseling center including but not limited to: (a) maintaining consistent appointment times for students while allowing for walk-in appointments; (b) following and enforcing the application of all FERPA and HIPAA guidelines; (c) maintaining security of files; and (d) supervising office support staff. The Director of the Counseling Center also provides periodic visits to other King University campuses. There may be times when overtime might occur, working after-hours with a student in crisis; consultation with faculty and staff; and assisting in educational and prevention programs.
Minimum Qualifications: A doctoral degree in counseling psychology, clinical psychology, clinical social work, counselor education, or other related discipline from an accredited institution is preferred. A master’s degree is required for this position. The candidate must hold licensure in one of the following: LCSW, LPC, LPE, or LMFT. A minimum of five years’ experience in counseling, preferably in a college or university setting is preferred. A clear understanding of Christian higher education as well as having a heart for service and for university students is essential for this position. The candidate must also have good organizational skills, strong relational and social skills, and the ability to handle situations with a sense of urgency and professionalism, and with confidentiality.
