The Director of Counseling & Career Services manages, directs, administers, evaluates and provides general oversight of counseling and mental health service for students, and provides counseling, referrals, and resources to assist students with the career development process. In addition the Director provides administrative oversight to Counseling Interns and any hired staff counselors and student workers. Provide Clinical Supervision for Interns in accordance with state regulations. This position reports to the VP of Student Development
Serve faithfully as a leader in Student Development
The Director/Counselor’s will do the work of a Student Development professional and contribute to the physical, social, emotional, intellectual and spiritual health and well-being of students within the mission and structure of Crown College.
Facilitate in-service training/orientation to RAs and faculty/staff as needed.
Establish a productive and proactive association with the faculty and staff of Crown College.
Be responsible to effectively engage in strategic planning for the Counseling Center in the institutional planning of the Student Development Division.
Conduct all office responsibilities, correspondence, budget matters and professional contacts necessary to the function of the office.
Attend regular Student Development Staff meetings.
Help students abide by the community standards as found in the Student Handbook.
Maintain professional standards of confidentiality and ethics in conjunction with established guidelines of appropriate professional associations.
Attend conferences, trainings, educational opportunities, and/or workshops for professional development and to maintain licensure and current knowledge in matters relating to student development in general and counseling services in particular, as well as, contribute to the body of knowledge of this ministry at Crown College.
Perform such other duties as the VP of Student Development may direct.
Administrate the Office of Counseling & Career Services
Assist in the development and implementation of the Counseling Center policies, procedures and best practices.
Recruit, interview, and select counseling interns and other staff within the office.
Assign work activities to intern and/or hired staff, monitor caseloads, and review, evaluate, and communicate progress to VP of Student Development.
Supervise and evaluate counseling interns and/or staff and programs.
Develop and maintain positive and collaborative relationships with community-wide referral sources relating to mental health and wellness, as well as educational programs which supply interns.
Administer and supervise personality and other psychological tests, and provide evaluation and analysis of results of testing specifically those used in determining fitness for travel abroad or mission students.
Counsel students and alumni
Provide professional counseling to students and facilitate group counseling as needed.
Provide proactive and preventative programs to assist in the mental health of students.
Oversee establishment and maintenance of counseling outreach programs for at-risk students.
Provide off-campus referral for counseling if it is in the best interest of the student.
Be available to students on an appointment and drop-in basis during established hours and assist in mental health crisis situations that may occur.
Oversee Career Services for SAS and SOS students and alumni
Provide career counseling and services to current students and alumni, including, but not limited to vocational assessments and other initiatives that will help students discern and successfully pursue their career aspirations.
Assist students with resume and cover letter writing skills through workshops and individual meetings.
Plan and implement on-campus recruiter visits and job fairs.
Establish and maintain partnerships with alumni, businesses, etc. to increase student internships and recruitment of graduates for employment.
Maintain online recruitment system and work closely with webmaster to maintain/update career services web site.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Be in agreement with the Crown College Statement of Faith and Community Covenant.
Experience in college health setting
Experience with psychological assessment tools; BDI, BAI, SCL90-R and others.
Experience with short-term individual and/or group counseling.
Experience giving group presentations.
Strong written and oral communication skills.
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Master’s degree in Psychology, Counseling, Social Work or related field
3 or more years of full time Counseling and at least 1 year of Supervision experience
LPC-MH or LPC required
Career development, assessment, coaching experience.
5 or more years of full time Counseling and at least 1 year of Supervision experience
Certified Career Counselor (CCC)
