The Senior Director for Undergraduate Student Financial Services and Director of Financial Aid reporting to the Chief Financial Officer is responsible for overseeing the undergraduate Student Financial Services functions and ensuring compliance with applicable federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies for undergraduate, adult degree completion, and graduate programs as Financial Aid Director of record for the University. This position is a key member of the University’s leadership team and collaborates extensively with the Finance, Enrollment Management, Student Success, and Advancement functions of the University.
Lead and coordinate the work of the undergraduate Student Financial Services (SFS) department including accurate and timely awarding of financial aid and invoicing of students, collection of receivables, and compliant and accurate disbursement of federal, state and private student financial aid.
Provide leadership and manage Undergraduate SFS Directors and Associate Directors including the selection, training, development and evaluation of staff.
Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and institutional regulations and policies for undergraduate, adult degree completion, and graduate programs as Financial Aid Director of record for PLNU.
Perform monitoring, analysis, and forecasting of institutional financial aid budgets and expenditures.
Evaluate business practices and implement new strategies and procedures as needed.
Responsible for completion of annual applications and audits for federal and state financial aid funds as well as periodic progress reports regarding expenditures of allocated funds.
Work with the University’s Institutional Research office to provide information and reports regarding financial aid programs to key University personnel and external constituencies.
Represent the SFS office to its various constituents, both inside and outside the University.
Primary liaison externally with financial aid organizations, and governing bodies.
Participate in and contribute to various University committees.
Attend financial aid and student account workshops, conferences and meetings.
Perform other duties as assigned.
A Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of experience and education and five years supervisory experience is required. Master’s degree preferred.
Exceptional leadership and management skills, ideally in a high-volume service center environment. Ability to delegate, support and motivate staff to achieve maximum performance.
Knowledgeable in all areas of financial aid: Federal Title IV and State regulations governing financial aid programs, determination of need, packaging procedures and resolution of problems.
Demonstrated success in evaluating and re-engineering operations and procedures, formulating policy, and implementing new strategies and procedures.
Ability to collaborate effectively with University leadership, budget managers, student financial services, and accounting staff to accomplish financial goals of the University.
Ability to investigate and analyze a wide variety of new information, exercise excellent judgment, identify key issues and write concise assessments and recommendations regarding findings.
Experience extracting data from complex data systems, organizing and analyzing data, and presenting data in easy to understand graphical and executive summary formats.
Understanding of and commitment to the spiritual mission of the University.
Ability to comprehend the overall needs of the University and make decisions that reflect a balanced concern for all appropriate points of view.
Ability to exercise critical human relations skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relations with students, parents, faculty, staff, and external agencies.
Proficiency in financial analysis software, such as Excel, at an advanced level and knowledge of a financial reporting tool.
Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, including public speaking.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The work is primarily sedentary and may require sitting for extended periods of time. Use of computer equipment: computer keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Vision to read documents, email and other correspondence, and reports on paper and computer monitor. Hearing and speaking to communicate effectively with others in person and by phone. Will also stand, stoop, push, pull, and lift up to 10 lbs throughout the day.
