The Department of Language and Literature encourages students to joyfully and critically engage texts, languages, and expressions of human nature from the most ancient to what just appeared on the web this week. We offer majors in English and Spanish and minors in Business and Professional Writing, English, Film, French, German, and Spanish. We take our ACU mission seriously, modeling Christ in our teaching and in our interactions with colleagues and students. Our faculty is actively engaged in research and publication as well as service on the ACU campus as well as in our churches and the Abilene community. We are actively involved in ACU's study abroad programs--both long semester and shorter summer sessions--in Oxford, UK, Leipzig, Germany, and Montevideo, Uruguay, where we host a Spanish immersion experience.
This position will teach all levels of French from Introductory Language courses to upper division French Culture and Literature courses for French language learners and minors. Ideally, the candidate will also be able to teach first-year Spanish classes.
We prefer that the candidate have a terminal degree (PhD) in French Language and Literature or in French Education (ABD may be accepted). Additionally, the candidate needs to have completed at least 18 graduate hours in Spanish or Spanish Language Teaching.
