The Program Coordinator supervises and manages multicultural programming and organizations, leads the department in communication and marketing efforts, and tracks and assesses retention for students of color on an on-going basis to advise the department on future action steps. The Program Coordinator is a central point of contact for the Student Center for Reconciliation and Diversity (SCRD) and Ethnic Student Organizations housed in the SCRD. The Coordinator oversees programming, training, and supervises and supports student interns and ethnic organizations’ student leaders. This person also develops marketing resources to effectively communicate programs, resources, initiatives, and opportunities to stakeholders and constituency groups.
Required Education * Master’s degree in counseling or education with an emphasis in student affairs, or related discipline from an accredited institution * Two to five years of experience with student programming and advising
Required Experience * Developing marketing materials and managing social media * Developing diversity and reconciliation programming from a Christian perspective * Experience with student success programming such as TRIO, Summer Bridge, or new student orientation * Facilitating diversity training, multicultural programming, and/or social justice education * Working in an educational setting with ethnically diverse college students and concerns relating to social inequities and disparities
Primary Duties/Essential Functions * Supervise and manage undergrad student interns in developing campus-wide multicultural events that include but not limited to: Develop professional competencies for Ethnic Organizations and facilitate fall and spring training opportunities - Connections - Heritage Month Celebrations - Ethnic Organization Multicultural Events - SCRD Speaker Series - Diversity Focus events - Assist with programming for Latino Male Success Initiative. - Assist with programming for the Pathway Scholars Program. * Monitor event programming budgets, negotiate performance contracts and pay outside vendors. * Coordinate the use of facilities. * Support current student retention support services. * Partner with the Undergrad Academic Success Center. * Sponsor and advise multi-ethnic student organizations. * Collaborates with the Office of Undergrad Admissions. * Designs student event programming policies for undergrad student workers and multi-ethnic organizations. * Manages SCRD website, Facebook, and Instagram pages with updated events and information * Participates with Executive Director in the Multi-Ethnic Leadership (MEL) Scholars selection process * Responds to inquiries * Serves as a resource person and potential mentor to students, especially students of color, coaching students on academic, personal, and spiritual concerns, referring students to appropriate resources as needed * Collaborate with various university departments in the retention of underrepresented ethnic minority students. * Research ideas, theories, and other cutting-edge programs.
Skills * Outstanding organizational skills, initiative, flexibility, good communication skills. * Strong command of grammar and writing skills. * Bilingual Spanish speaking a plus. * Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
