POSITION SUMMARY • The Assistant Vice President leads and manages the day to day operations of the University’s comprehensive development function through the crafting, implementation and improvement of systems, policy and procedures that enable the effective and efficient achievement of the University’s development goals. This includes the development of strong relationships with individual donors, alumni, foundations, corporations and friends of OCU for the purpose of fundraising and securing major gifts. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Any one position may not include all of the listed duties, nor do all of the listed examples include all tasks which may be found in positions within this classification) • Identify, define and acquire funding resources available to the University • Design and implementation of a comprehensive advancement / development program and appropriate marketing strategies, which includes annual giving, major and planned giving, and stewardship • Design and implement and / or maintain a structured fund-raising program as an aspect of the University’s overall program and as economic resource development • Work collaboratively with staff members to identify avenues of economic support for programs / projects • Aggressively seeks new corporate / foundation funding sources and maintains relationships with current / past donors. Represents University in meeting with potential funding sources • Articulate the vision, mission, goals and core values of the University • Administrate the development function • Work closely with the Vice President for Advancement and the University President to establish fundraising initiatives and goals • Craft, implement, manage and improve systems that will enable the effectiveness and efficiency of the development function • Ensure that the University is served with a full range of development functions including prospect research and identification, through cultivation, solicitation, closure and stewardship, for donors of all levels • Collaborate with the VP for Advancement to establish short- and long-term goals for the development effort, including fundraising strategies and building the case for support • Manage a thorough donor acknowledgement and stewardship system that maintains consistent contact with donors • Utilize appropriate development reporting processes; monitor and objectively evaluate all University fundraising appeals; develop standard activity and progress reports for monitoring and evaluation • Manage the solicitation process, including recommending proposal ask amounts and monitoring committee/volunteer assignments • Provide performance evaluations for individuals under supervision and performance feedback for other collaborating teammates • Cultivate, solicit and secure gifts for OCU from donors, business, corporations and foundations • Undertake special assignments as requested
REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS According to Ohio Christian University employment policy, all employees must possess a strong Christian commitment and adhere to the standards outlined in the OCU Community Lifestyle Statement. • Education, Training and Experience: The successful candidate will be a proven development officer who believes in the mission of Ohio Christian University, is results- and people-oriented, and possesses a strong work ethic with superb attention to detail. The candidate will also have proven communication skills with an ability to write and speak persuasively about the role of educational philanthropy. Some night and weekend work and travel are required. Required • Bachelor’s Degree. • Minimum 4-6 years’ experience in a high function development program with progressively increasing responsibility or an equivalent combination of related experience. • Demonstrated proficiency in Raiser’s Edge, Microsoft Word, and Excel. • Demonstrated experience in a position that required leadership skills. • Proven and demonstrated ability to cultivate, solicit, and steward major gifts. • Demonstrated experience in a position that required exceptional written, speaking and listening skills. • Demonstrated attention to detail.
