Friends University invites applications for a full-time faculty member to serve as Assistant Professor of Strings and Orchestra Director beginning in Fall 2019. This position is a tenure-track, nine-month faculty appointment and reports to the Chair of the Division of Fine Arts. The ideal candidate will hold a terminal degree in a string area and have PreK-12 orchestra directing experience. The successful applicant will teach string-related courses, direct the Friends University Orchestra, teach private lessons, and work with the Chair of Fine Arts in providing leadership to the string program.

EXPECTATIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful candidate will teach/direct:
Applied Instrumental Lessons
Additional duties include:
Recruiting students for the string program
Overseeing the budget of the string program
Serving on university-wide committees
Other possible duties, depending on the interests of the new faculty member, include teaching:
Composition and/or Arranging
Student Teacher supervision
Music Education classes
Pedagogy and Literature for the School Band and Orchestra
The successful candidate will hold a terminal degree in a string area or conducting, or currently will be in the dissertation process with a clear plan for completion, and will have experience directing orchestras in a PreK-12 setting.
The university prefers to hire a candidate who is a string player and holds graduate degrees in a string area and orchestral conducting.
Rank and salary are commensurate with education and experience.
