The Council for Christian Colleges & Universities (CCCU) seeks a Vice President for Finance and Business Development who is responsible for directing the full financial and strategic operations of this $12 million non-profit firm in nine locations. The successful candidate will be a certified public accountant who has the expertise to forecast, manage budgets, and test the feasibility of new endeavors. More significantly, this position will also assist the President to seek and propose new business opportunities and partnerships to enhance the CCCU’s value to its 180 members. Candidates should be familiar with higher education and the non-profit sector. Candidates without higher educational background but with a financial and strategic experience in secular settings will be considered if he or she demonstrates a full appreciation of the CCCU mission. Finally, this position also directs the administrative functions of the organization which include information technology and facilities and provides business oversight to the international educational programs of the CCCU.
The Vice President for Finance and Business Development reports to the President and serves on the cabinet. This position also interfaces with the CCCU board of directors (i.e. Presidents of CCCU institutions) and often staffs board directed tasks. The successful candidate will have an executive mindset which enjoys being part of a cabinet team, seeking to build and develop immediate team members and enhance overall organizational wellbeing. All CCCU employees work to understand not only their own particular responsibilities but also the work of the entire organization. This enables all employees to pray for and work towards the success and flourishing of all colleagues and their work. The position requires domestic and international travel.
Develop and direct all aspects of the organization's financial reporting; provide advice and education to key leaders; manage finance staff
Oversee annual budget preparation, improvements, and the education of senior leaders of financial issues impacting their budgets
Oversee the fiscal management and direction of the CCCU’s student programs in such areas as program pricing, goals, and evaluation metrics; visit sites periodically
Report to the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors
Serve as the CCCU staff liaison with the CCCU Chief Financial Officer Commission; help select commissioners; guide and direct the planning and oversight of their annual meeting
Ensure compliance with federal, state and local legal requirements by researching existing and new legislation, consulting with outside advisors, and filing financial reports. Advise management of actions and potential risks
Optimize the handling of bank, investment, and deposit relationships and initiate appropriate strategies to enhance returns
Oversee departments of information technology and facilities and the human resources programs of benefits and retirement plans to ensure all activities, plans, changes, and initiatives are appropriate
Oversee risk management which includes acquiring proper insurance
Improve the overall operating effectiveness by enhancing and/or developing new policies and procedures
Advise, negotiate, manage, and administer all contracts
Research and propose new business opportunities and/or partnerships that financially benefit the CCCU association membership
Collaborate with thought leaders to find strategies to improve the financial model of higher education through creative and innovative thinking
Coordinate the execution of strategic initiatives across all CCCU departments and locations and create metrics to measure performance and progress towards goals
Prepare forecasts for innovative business, real-estate, and contract considerations and then lead the project implementation
Collect data to inform the development of strategic initiatives under the guidance of the President, Board of Directors, and leadership cabinet, and to inform the viability of starting and ending new programs
Other duties as assigned by President.
Skills and Qualifications:
Have an understanding and a strong appreciation for the Christian mission and purpose of the CCCU and its BestSemester programs
Hold a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license
Preferably hold a Masters of Business Administration or an equivalent degree
Have minimum of ten years of significant financial administration experience; international financial accounting experience is a plus
Be a team builder who can relate to people at all levels of an organization and who possesses excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Have experience with grants, contracts, and real estate opportunities
Be a strategic visionary with sound analytical ability, good judgment, innovative thinking, and a strong operational focus
Be willing to occasionally travel domestically and internationally (~20%)
