Calvin College is seeking a full-time regular faculty member to join the Spanish Department to teach Second-Language Pedagogy, Bilingual/ESL Education, and Spanish language beginning in August 2019. The faculty member should be willing and able to direct off-campus semester programs and should be a native or near-native speaker of both Spanish and English. The opening is at the rank of assistant professor.
The standard teaching load is 21-24 semester hours distributed over two semesters and a January interim term. Faculty are expected to pursue an active scholarship agenda, to advise undergraduate students, and to serve on college and departmental committees.

ABOUT THE SPANISH PROGRAM
The Spanish Department actively promotes student engagement with Spanish speakers and the Hispanic World, both locally and globally. It directs semester programs in Honduras (Tegucigalpa), Peru (Arequipa), and Spain (Oviedo), and all majors are required to study abroad for a semester. It also offers a January program in Me?xico (Me?rida), and minors, too, are required to study abroad as part of their program. The department also encourages student engagement with the sizeable Hispanic community in Grand Rapids, both through multiple internships options for majors and Service Learning projects for students at all levels. Faculty and students in Calvin’s education program are actively engaged in local schools as well as schools in other parts of the country and other parts of the world.

Education and Experience
Faculty members are expected to demonstrate excellent teaching ability and a track record of (or strong potential for) scholarly work. All areas of Second-Language Pedagogy expertise will be considered. Successful candidates will have either a PhD or other terminal degree in Second-Language Education or a related field.
