The Seattle Pacific University Music Department seeks to hire a dynamic, vibrant, and motivated Director of Music Education. A preference will be given to a candidate with experience in string teaching and orchestral conducting. Consideration will also be given to a candidate with an ethnomusicology background.
This Assistant Professor of Music Education appointment is a full-time, nine-month, tenure track-eligible position, to begin on September 1, 2019. This position includes the following responsibilities:
Lead, coordinate, and grow the Music Education program.
Teach undergraduate courses in Music Education from a global perspective and other courses in areas of the music curriculum commensurate with abilities and programmatic needs.
Coordinate with the School of Education's Masters of Arts in Teaching program
Supervise student teachers.
Conduct the orchestra, teach ethonomusicology courses, or teach other courses based on skills and interests.
The successful candidate will be expected to display a demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching, service, and scholarship and a commitment to undergraduate education. The candidate should also possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with a diverse array of students and colleagues.
Commensurate with Assistant Professor rank. Opportunities available to participate in summer course offerings for additional compensation.
Doctorate in Music or Music Education, or closely related field, from an accredited institution. ABD accepted.
Three years of K-12 teaching experience.
