Position Summary: The Director of Advancement is responsible for leading the University’s fundraising program, which includes planning, management, and execution thereof. The Director oversees the annual and planned giving programs, academic and athletics fundraising, and external communications related to fundraising and stewardship. This position supervises professional staff dedicated to major gift fundraising, planned giving, and annual giving, and will manage a portfolio of donor prospects. The Director works closely with and on behalf of the Vice President for Institutional Advancement.
Directs management of campaign activities, including: campaign feasibility studies; development, recommendation and, once approved, implementation of strategies and initiatives to achieve campaign objectives; development of campaign case statements, events, communications and other public materials; monitoring progress towards campaign goals; identifying and recommending resource allocations; and coordinating support of the campaign with other University offices and departments.
Directs the Advancement Officers and Gift Planning Counselors, including reports on activities, monitoring of progress and development with professional staff of strategies for their assigned donors.
Manages a portfolio of donor prospects to cultivate mid and major level gifts to the University.
Supervises and supports the Concordia Fund Manager to enable sustainable growth in dollars raised annually to support the University’s operations.
Manages the donor stewardship functions of the office, including the development implementation, review and assessment of programs and initiatives.
Manages, in coordination with the Director of Advancement Operations, the review, identification and assignment of donor statuses.
Leads and manages efforts to expand the University’s fundraising initiatives and prospect donors.
Oversees fundraising efforts for the University’s Athletic Department, academic departments and student groups.
Assists the Vice President for Institutional Advancement in maintaining and developing partnerships with University departments, offices and programs.
Works collaboratively with the Senior Director of Advancement Operations and Director of Alumni and University Relations to carry our office plans and initiatives.
Assists the Vice President for Institutional Advancement in the development and implementation of the office’s strategic plans and annual work plans.
Assists the Vice President for Institutional Advancement in the development of policies and procedures in support of the office and ensuring that staff follow such policies and procedures.

Bachelor’s degree or higher required.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in fundraising or 5 years of related business experience.
Experience in major gift work preferred.
Experience and ability to demonstrate success in managing a team of workers desired.
Knowledge of campaign planning desired.
Knowledge of deferred gift planning desired.
Proficiency in use of software applications including Microsoft applications, databases, spreadsheets and word processing required.
