The University seeks an Athletic Director of Recruitment, Operations, and Development. This is a full-time, 12-month position that reports to The Vice President for Student Life. A full complement of benefits is provided, including a health care plan, retirement contributions, and tuition assistance, each subject to associated waiting periods. The candidate will also receive generous holidays, and vacation and sick days earned on an accrual basis.
Responsibilities for this position include:
Appoint and lead a New Sports Task Force to determine which sports to add as outlined by the athletic growth strategy
Manage the athletic growth model and work with coaches to meet annual recruitment goals
Facilitate two prospect days for all sports twice annually
Ensure regular flow of information between admissions and financial aid offices
Submit new sports budget proposals to Senior Leadership Team annually in conjunction with the budgeting calendar
Attend monthly marketing meetings to set strategy and messaging for new sport rollouts
Generate funds for the MVNU athletic department through various resources
Work with the Office of University Advancement to coordinate fundraising efforts
Keep detailed and accurate records regarding funds raised and report to the Vice President for Student Life
Increase the donor base annually
Maintain close contact and professional relationships with the Knox County community
Organize and supervise the Athletic staff and delegate responsibilities to warrant the efficient and productive operation of administrative and operational functions of the department
Coordinate and chair all regular athletic staff meetings
Implement the mission of Mount Vernon Nazarene University by educating and supervising programs, activities, services, and professional faculty and staff within the athletic department
Coordinate athletic team schedules to comply with the policy manual, the athletic conference, and the NAIA
Prepare, supervise, and manage all athletic scholarships and department budgets for athletic programs
Coordinate and monitor athletic needs, including transportation, publicity, upkeep of equipment, facilities, fields, concessions, ticket sales, officiating, contracts, sponsorships, insurance, etc.
Develop athletic reports, departmental annual goals, and strategic plans
Support, promote, and cooperate with MVNU and Student Life regarding disciplinary policies, student behavior, and academic integrity matters
Oversee all NAIA and Crossroads League conference requirements, including all required reports being turned in on time
Assure that new coaches are properly hired, trained, and mentored
Plan Homecoming activities in cooperation with the Alumni Relations office
Oversee the planning and management of post-season tournaments and contests
Approve and keep records of all graduate assistants for athletic programs
Update Athletic Department Policies and Procedures Handbook on a yearly basis
Prepare and present athletic reports to the Board of Trustees
Represent MVNU at all regional and national meetings
Serve on university committees as required
Coordinate the planning and organization of summer athletic camps with the Vice President for Student Life, the Vice President for Finance and CFO, and the Facilities office
Assist the Vice President for Student Life with any reports or information needed regarding athletics
Perform other assigned duties and activities as designated by the Vice President for Student Life.
Expectations for the Successful Candidate:
Evangelical Christian statement of faith, experience and mission fit;
Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred in the field of athletics, administration, operations, an/or management.
Must have a minimum of three to five years of experience in athletics or other campus leadership areas
Knowledge of principles and techniques of development and administration of a departmental budget
Working understanding of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Clear and concise interpersonal communication and public speaking necessary
Shows initiative to anticipate and attempt to resolve all problems/issues/needs while maintaining essential services
Committed to the pursuit of lifelong personal and professional growth striving to improve job skills and obtain requisite knowledge and capabilities to support the University’s goals and objectives
Strives for quality communication with the objective of strengthening relationships with all University constituents
