Under the guidance of the VP of Student Life and Enrollment Management, the Director of Communications is responsible to provide leadership for the content and functionality of Denver Seminary’s reputation-focused platforms, including: Denver Seminary’s website, magazine, social media accounts, and various internal publications. The director is also responsible for creating and managing media and public relations strategies and supervising the Marketing and Communications Coordinator.
Coordinate with the VP of Student Life and Enrollment Management to develop and manage the Seminary’s comprehensive communications strategy which communicates the mission, vision, values, and brand of the Seminary through effective communications channels to advance the national, regional, state, and local reputation of Denver Seminary.
Create, implement, and manage media and public relations strategies, including: generating appropriate news announcements for all websites and social media venues, writing press releases and creating official statements from the Seminary, fielding press calls, promoting staff and faculty achievements to the Seminary community, reactively teaming faculty speakers with appropriate venues for speaking engagements, and helping manage communication and technology for activities associated with alumni relations.
Manage Seminary’s brand platform (mission, vision, and values) through reputation-focused avenues, including: main website, MyDenSem, Instagram, YouTube channel, Facebook page, and other sites as appropriate. Manage the content of Denver Seminary’s main “www” website and Social Media sites, working with the Marketing and Communications Coordinator and internal representatives from appropriate departments to maintain fresh, engaging content.
Coordinate internal and external communications for potential public relations, community relations, and crisis issues.
Serve as editor for Engage magazine and the Advent Devotional, taking guidance from the executive editor, drawing content and help from editorial committee and overseeing all activities from development of content calendar, production, and printing.
Develop and manage e-communications strategy using mass mailing tool to facilitate communications flow between the Seminary and various internal and external publics working with content providers in different campus departments.
Responsible for brand management content related to the mission, vision, and values of Denver Seminary. Directs and coaches internal departments in effectively expressing the brand platforms of Denver Seminary through various communication frameworks.
Track analytics, statistics, and trends for the website and social media outlets. Analyze the data and note trends to make recommendations and decisions about improving the Seminary’s online communications efforts.
Establish and maintain contacts with internal and external vendors; e.g. writers, editors, artists, designers, publication contacts when needed.
Collaborate with Director of Marketing on various branding projects, including: creative direction of Engage Magazine, Seminary writing standards, website design, messaging, video production, and event promotion.
Assess current Denver Seminary communications materials for effectiveness and propose actions for improvement.
Evaluate existing PR and communication plans, strive to make it current, and propose actions for improvement, reach, and impact.
Be available on an on-call basis as situation arise which require communication to external constituencies.
Supervise the Marketing and Communications Coordinator.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and experience
Experience with leading public relations and crisis communication projects
Web content development and social network management experience
Significant experience in project management
Desktop publishing of content to established templates
Comfortable communicating with internal and external constituents
Organized, flexible, detail-oriented, and computer proficient
Well-spoken in person and on the phone
Ability to use database tools for audience and project management
Ability to plan and track overall objectives while tracking details and deadlines
MS Office proficient
Bachelor’s degree required
