OVERVIEW OF POSITION: The Director of Counseling Services supports the emotional and mental health of The King’s College student body. S/he provides individual and group counseling for students, refers students to on and off campus mental health resources, and guides faculty and staff in responding to mental health concerns in the King’s community.
Provide individual and group counseling for students
Provide supervision and collaboration for Counselors and Counseling Interns
Provide referrals for services such as psychiatric care, learning disability evaluations and external counseling resources
Coordinate the hospitalization of students who experience a high level of suicide potential and/or inability to function in the college environment
Follow up with students and outside providers to help ensure continuity of treatment and monitoring as necessary
Outreach and Collaboration
Work with Student Development team to execute health and safety plan and related events
Conduct informational sessions for students; provide in-service training for student leaders, staff and faculty regarding counseling resources and addressing mental health issues
Identify, plan, publicize, and implement workshops and activities that meet the mental health needs of the student community
Provide consultation services for faculty and staff pertaining to student concerns
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Excellent management and administrative skills
Interest in interacting with the wider campus community
Knowledge of clinical and developmental issues common to college students
Ability to integrate psychology and theology from a Biblical worldview
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
General office environment; normal mental concentration.
