The Dean is expected to provide leadership and support for strategic planning, budget planning, program review and accreditation, faculty and staff development, advisory board initiatives, student and staff recruitment and retention, and community engagement. The Dean is expected to establish and maintain effective partnerships on behalf of the School of Education and the School of Behavioral Sciences with leaders in education and mental health communities such as PK -12 public and private schools, mental health agencies, hospitals and faith-based organizations. The Dean will help shape the future of the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences (COEBS) by articulating the Houston Baptist University Ten Pillars Vision, defining its standard of excellence and guiding its direction of growth.
Develops and implements University and College ongoing priorities and initiatives
Recruits and supports an outstanding faculty
Coordinates of all accreditation activities, data collection, and reporting in conjunction with the Department Chairs and the Director of the Center for Preparation and Professional Development (CPPE) in the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences
Completes assessment reports and program reviews for new and existing programs
Supports and supervises staff and adjunct faculty associated with the programs
Collaborates with the Department Chairs and the Director of the CPPE to oversee student field experiences and student teaching
Is responsible for efficient and effective administration and fiscal management of the College, working within the context of an approved budget
Develops and maintains strong relationships and partnerships with school district personnel, advisory councils, and other partners in the community.
Oversees all functions and services related to recruiting, admitting, matriculating, advising, scheduling, retaining and students in all programs.
Anticipates and resolves student and personnel concerns and problems.
Represents the mission of the College of Education and Behavioral Studies at on and off campus functions.
Represents the College to the campus, external communities, and alumni
Provides leadership in identifying, soliciting and securing external funds
Is responsible for taking the initiative to pursue new opportunities for the College of Education and Behavioral Sciences, including the development of new degree programs
A doctoral degree in Behavioral Sciences (Counseling or Psychology preferred) or Education and knowledge in the field of Education
Minimum of 3 years of P-12 or higher education administrative experience
A collegial administrative style that promotes a sense of academic respect and collaboration
An appreciation and desire to promote both traditional and non-traditional modes of learning, specifically including online
Experience in program reviews, assessment, and specialized accreditation (e.g. SACSCOC, CACREP, NASP, CAEP)
Leadership experience and a demonstrated capacity for comprehensive vision, bold action, effective decision-making, and inspirational leadership
Expertise in budget management and alignment of resource allocations with strategic planning
Demonstrated success in attracting and retaining faculty & students
Effective communication skills and the ability to work with a broad range of constituencies, including faculty, staff, students, administrative colleagues, parents, alumni, and the external community both locally and globally
Unimpeachable ethics and integrity
A distinguished record of academic, management, and entrepreneurial success as well as a record of scholarly achievement
