Responsibilities & Duties
Models the Statement of Faith and Community Covenant with colleagues, faculty, staff, students, and appropriate external constituencies.
In association with the associate dean, develop an overarching vision and strategy for growing MML through increased online course offerings. Articulate the pedagogical benefits and student learning outcomes associated with online program offerings.
Build rapport with all stakeholders by partnering with program directors, faculty, AIT, and others to develop courses and programs that both meet market needs and further Wheaton’s academic standards.
Works with Marketing and Communications to promote online opportunities.
Teach one online course a year in order to sharpen personal skills and engage with student experiences and outcomes as appropriate.
Plan and manage online course and program development and related design projects.
Support and champion AIT’s efforts for faculty development and training in the use of instructional technology in course development, the assessment of student outcomes, and the best-practice teaching and learning methodologies for online education.
Ensure appropriate college standards for quality online education are met or exceeded.
Analyze student learning outcomes and devise modes of assessment to measure the effectiveness of the outcomes for each course.
Write effective copy, instructional text, and video scripts.
Coordinate video capture and editing.
Ensure that course work follows universal design.
Ensure faith and learning experiencing are part of the curriculum design.
In coordination with faculty, oversee all aspects of WheatonX course creation. Serve as the student support mechanism for registration, questions, etc.
Stay current with trends in online technology and best-practices of teaching and learning; make recommendations about potential technological and pedagogical adjustments.
Work with internal and external stakeholders to ensure all online course offerings meet Federal and HLC guidelines and provide reports for accreditation reviews.
Conduct a regular review of existing courses to assess what updating is needed.
Work closely with AIT to keep systems running smoothly to minimize any downtime that could negatively impact students’ learning.
Maintains budget, P&L, and income statements.
Oversees hiring of any outside subject matter experts and other outside personnel needed for course development.
Applies for any possible grants for course and program devolvement.
May oversee an assigned TA to help with data entry and student support.
Other duties as assigned.
PhD, EdD, or DMin, in one of the disciplines represented in MML preferred.
Five years’ experience teaching online & Three years’ experience with online course creation and course management
Strong oral, written, interpersonal, and project management skills.
History of interacting collaboratively with a variety of constituents; work well autonomously with good independent judgment; experience leading work teams and training others.
Record of entrepreneurial and strategic thinking with a willingness to implement projects, manage organizational processes, pay attention to details, and administrate.
Knowledge of curriculum design and adult learning theories, instructional design models, strategies, and best practices.
Knowledge of streaming audio and video, file types and formats, and experience with learning management software.
