PURPOSE: Provide administrative, instructional, and advising leadership for the Bachelor of Science in Business Management (BSM), the Master of Business Administration (MBA), and the Master of Organizational Leadership (MOL) for the Office of Adult & Graduate Studies (A&GS) within the College of Graduate, Online & Adult Learning.
This position is 50% instructional and 50% program director and is located in Sioux Falls, SD.
Essential job responsibilities include but are not limited to:
TEACHING (for MBA, MOL, & BSM)
Teach assigned courses
Interact with students via discussion forums, classroom presence, etc.
Help students succeed in their courses
Respond to student questions and concerns in a timely manner
Grade student assignments/papers in a timely manner
Provide basic academic advising support
Attend and support university events
COMMUNICATION, MEETINGS, PROCEDURES
Serve as a communication liaison and representative for A&GS with the main campus (Twin Cities) and with students within the BSM, MOL, and MBA programs.
Attend and provide support for the following events: Admissions Information Night, New Student Orientation, Graduate Student Symposium (remote at main campus).
Assist in the coordination of student internships and directed studies via collaboration with other offices on the main campus.
Maintain strong collaborative ties with Admissions and Marketing and assist in the recruitment of new students.
Engage in retention efforts and communicate with program students on a regular basis for encouragement, understanding, support, and precluding/resolving conflict, etc.
CURRICULUM, PROGRAMS, ASSESSMENT
Oversee the assigned program area curriculum verifying that its content is current, coherent in structure, comprehensive in scope, and of high quality for all new, current, and revised courses in all delivery modalities.
Review course equivalency, transfer credit, and CTA syllabi requests as needed.
Complete minor revisions as needed based upon new textbook editions, open textbook adoptions, student feedback, or program enhancement.
Assign instructors to major revisions and writing new curriculum, in keeping with A&GS approval procedures.
Complete the annual and/or 5-year program assessment report in a timely manner.
Assist in the development of new program proposals as requested by A&GS academic administration.
HIRING, OVERSIGHT, DEVELOPMENT
Assist in the recruitment of new, appropriately credentialed instructors.
Participate in the hiring process in collaboration with A&GS academic administration.
Assign appropriately credentialed instructors to teach courses ensuring they remain within credit load limits.
Mentor, train, and monitor new instructors which includes conducting a formal observation for each new instructor during the first semester of teaching.
Conduct a formal observation for regularly scheduled instructors once every two academic years.
Regularly communicate with all instructors ensuring familiarity and adherence with A&GS policies and procedures, high quality instruction in the classroom, support of students, etc.
Assist with the management and resolution of issues which may arise between students and instructors.
Monitor end-of-course evaluations and follow up with instructors if problems arise; escalate to the Dean as needed.
Support and encourage the professional development of program area instructors.
Engage in scholarly pursuits for graduate-level instructors as appropriate.

Minimum Education and Experience:
Master’s degree in relevant area required
Previous successful administrative experience required; college or university level preferred
Previous successful teaching experience at the college or university level required

Knowledge and understanding of FERPA and basic employment law
Knowledge and understanding of basic computer skills
Excellent knowledge and understanding of financial management
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
Understanding of and agreement with Northwestern’s Declaration of Christian Community and Doctrinal Statement is essential
Ability to pass a background check upon hire and periodically throughout the course of employment
