Position Summary: Austin Graduate School of Theology is seeking an experienced, proven fundraiser with a passion for Christian higher education and an energetic, positive outlook. AGST is located in Austin – a dynamic city in the heart of Texas. The school is implementing an exciting, bold strategic plan that calls for a more refined advancement program. Therefore, the leader selected for this role must be able to hit the ground running with donor relations while developing/implementing a comprehensive plan for overall fundraising success. Austin Grad, an independent seminary accredited by the Southern Association of College and Schools Commission on Colleges*, offers theological education at the undergraduate and graduate level, and the expansion of current online programs is currently under consideration.
Create and execute a practical, measurable advancement plan for increasing donations, including identification of new leadership-level donors and resources beyond individuals.
Research, cultivate and introduce new potential donors to AGST.
Prepare the president (prospect research, relationship info, etc.) for major donor meetings/asks.
Create and execute an annual giving program to solicit ongoing support and increase giving from loyal donors.
Manage donor-related events – both fundraising and stewardship.
Effectively steward existing donors, in partnership with the president, including a systematic thank-you process.
Manage donor communication – for fundraising, gratefulness and stewardship.
Coordinate grant management, foundation relationships and grant writing (in collaboration with writing/consulting firm, as needed).
Consistently and accurately track prospect/donor contacts and stages (identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit, steward, renew). Actively and effectively utilize a fundraising database (learn if necessary); currently use Exceed.
Ensure all donations and donor relations are handled with the highest ethnical standards, following established guidelines (such as Association of Fundraising Professionals).
Desired Candidate Qualities and Experiences
Proven success in both major gift and annual gift fundraising; knowledge of planned giving a plus
Strong, active, church-going Christian whose faith is central to daily life
Highly values/appreciates diversity (ethnic/racial, religious, gender); comfortable in diverse settings
Self-motivated and goals driven
Experience using donor/gift tracking systems and tracking comprehensive prospect/donor data
Track record of utilizing a “moves management” philosophy of donor relations
Gifted, patient listener and good conversationalist
Strong written and oral communication skills
Confidence in cold calling and in meeting new people
Good at building and maintaining long-term relationships
Proven solo achiever and collaborative team player
Demonstrated balance of people-oriented and analytic/strategic
Highly organized and exceptional at follow-through
Technology/social media savvy
Familiarity with Texas (particularly Austin-Houston-San Antonio markets) a plus
Requires locating in Greater Austin area
