The purpose of this position is twofold: 1) to enhance the Division of Music by teaching private lessons and undergraduate music classes and 2) to facilitate all logistical aspects of the Preparatory Department. Responsibilities will be divided equally between both aspects of the position.
Essential Functions include:
Recruiting and teaching undergraduate music majors with piano as their primary instrument.
Teaching undergraduate courses related to piano, including Class Piano, Accompanying, and Piano Pedagogy.
Oversee and administer all operational aspects of the Preparatory Department, including publicity, recruitment, enrollment, personnel, scheduling, billing, collections, and budgeting.
Leading the Preparatory Department in maintaining high standards of excellence and actively engaging the community of Shawnee, the Central Oklahoma region and beyond.
Demonstrate musical and academic excellence through activities such as solo and chamber music recitals, conference presentations, and research publications.
Will perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Exceptional musicianship as modeled through both performance and teaching;
Demonstrated strong communication and interpersonal skills to regularly dialogue with proapective undergraduate students and and also with teachers, parents, and students involved with the Preparatory Department;
Proven administrative skills and knowledge to manage and promote a large, active community music program housed within an undergraduate academic unit; and
Must have satisfactorily demonstrated ability to equip, train, assess, and utilize effectively the teachers, staff, and student workers associated with the Preparatory Department.
Requires certification and experience in music pedagogies such as Suzuki, Orff-Schulwerk, or the like.
Preferred: Arts administration and music teaching experience.
Required: Experience reflective of potential for success in arts administration.
